In 1995, Clay Shannon and his wife, Margarita, purchased a mountain property in the High Valley appellation in Lake County, 35 miles north of Napa. Since then, they have been committed to building the reputation of Lake County and devoted to improving the community.
They began planting vineyards along the steep volcanic ridges on their property and now have 420 acres of prime vineyards on the ranch. Shannon Ridge released its first wines in 2004. Wine Business Monthly named Shannon Ridge one of the hottest new wine brands in 2006. In June 2007, Shannon Ridge Winery opened its renovated tasting room facility in a historic one room school house on Highway 20 in Clearlake Oaks.
Adjacent to the tasting room, the winery also completed the construction of a demonstration "vinegarden" which allows visitors to relax in a park-like setting while enjoying the Shannon Ridge wines.
"At Shannon Ranch more than 1,000 sheep patrol the property, turning cover crops and fire dangers into instant compost. From October to April our sheep graze inside our vineyards initially eating the few grape clusters left by our pickers and any second crop that our vines may have produced. After the sheep clean up the remaining fruit they forage on the natural clovers and grasses that have grown throughout the season."
Family owned. Family run. And a deep commitment to making the best wine that they can. Please join us on Friday night we will talk with the vineyard live and sample the wine with local representitive Mr. Gary Beaulieu.

To give it complexity, this wine was aged with French and American oak. It is a blend of red varietals married together to create a wine that best represents its vintage.
Aroma: Ripe cherry, blackberry, rich vanilla oak Flavor: Blackberry, cinnamon spice, vanilla Texture: Rich, elegant, soft tannins, nice balance with a lush finish.
