Dear Orinda Union School District Faculty, Staff, Parents, Students, and Community Members,
We are thrilled to announce that the Orinda Union School District Board of Trustees has approved the hiring of Tracey Lewis to be the new Principal of Glorietta Elementary School. The District held a rigorous interview process that involved parents, teachers, staff, administrators, and included a visit to Glorietta classrooms. Ms. Lewis rose to the top of a competitive field of highly qualified candidates and joins Glorietta with glowing references from parents, staff, and supervisors. Her references used terms such as, “She has an amazing understanding of instruction,” and “She has a great understanding of the many hats a school leader must wear for student success.” It is clear from their feedback that Ms. Lewis is a passionate, thoughtful, and collaborative instructional leader.
Ms. Lewis comes to Glorietta Elementary with 28 years of experience in public education. She received her Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology from U.C. Berkeley and worked in the San Leandro Unified School District as a Teacher, Reform Coordinator, and Intervention Specialist. Most recently, she has been Principal of Haight Elementary School in the Alameda Unified School District, where she has done significant work with STEM/STEAM, social emotional learning, and building a school culture that supports all students to achieve at high levels. Under Ms. Lewis’ leadership, Haight Elementary was named a California Gold Ribbon and Title I Distinguished School in 2016.
Throughout the search process, Ms. Lewis shared her passion and vision for 21st century teaching and learning and supporting students’ social and emotional growth. Her expertise includes development of mindful classrooms and tiered academic and behavioral interventions. She is a staunch advocate for students and keeps them at the center of her decision making. Ms. Lewis is excited to pursue this vision as she supports and deepens the great work that is happening at Glorietta Elementary. She brings a strong history of building partnerships with staff, students, parents, and community and is eager to meet with the Glorietta community in the coming weeks.
To facilitate a successful transition, Ms. Lewis
will be meeting with retiring Glorietta Principal Ron Langer this summer to tap into his knowledge and insights. We thank Mr. Langer for his years of leadership at Glorietta and appreciate his willingness to support these efforts.
Ms. Lewis lives in Alameda with her husband and their two sons. She will communicate with Glorietta staff and families in the near future regarding important information for the 2018-19 school year and opportunities to attend a meet-and-greet event.
Best,
Dr. Carolyn Seaton
Superintendent of Schools
