Dear Reader,

The ribbon has been cut! Caritas Homes Phase One has opened, with residents moving into their brand-new apartments.

Phase One of Caritas Homes, a Burbank Housing and Catholic Charities partnership, is now complete and brings 64 units of critically needed housing to Sonoma County. We hope you are as excited as we are to welcome residents to their new homes where they can begin the next chapter of their lives!

Phase Two is projected to break ground next fall. When completed, a total of 128 units will have been added to Santa Rosa's housing stock.

These homes are the affordable housing component of Caritas Village, the comprehensive redevelopment of this downtown city block envisioned by Catholic Charities as a national model to reduce homelessness. The heart of Caritas Village, Catholic Charities’ Caritas Center, opened its doors last September.

Caritas Center opened one year ago! To commemorate this moment, Redwood Credit Union has contributed a $10,000 matching gift!

Permanent Supportive Housing at Caritas Homes

We pause to consider what a blessing 30 of these 64 units will be as permanent supportive housing. Thirty chronically homeless individuals will have stable housing to call their own for the first time in years, maybe over a decade.

These individuals have experienced unimaginable pain in their lives as they have waited for housing to become available that meets their needs. No one should have to endure a life without a home, a kitchen, a bed, a shower – and now thirty more people have that opportunity to thrive once again.

Maribel is one of the first residents to move in!

Mirabel was referred to Catholic Charities Nightingale in March, a just 25 years old, she was diagnosed with a severe illness as a result of horrific abuses.

The recuperative care available at Nightingale led to much-needed stabilization and opened doors to housing.

Through her Permanent Supportive Housing unit at Caritas Homes, Maribel will have access to continued Catholic Charities support services.

Press Democrat: First phase complete for Caritas Homes affordable housing development in downtown Santa Rosa

"The first residents of the new Caritas Homes had just barely settled in when they were invited to a celebration outside their front doors Thursday. That’s when representatives from the city of Santa Rosa, Sonoma County, Burbank Housing, and Catholic Charities marked the completion of the first phase of the affordable housing development.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony signaled the grand opening of 64 housing units which are the newest part of the county’s affordable housing inventory."
