Christine Cervino Grider
Christine Grider grew up in Pennsylvania where she trained at Pennsylvania Dance Theatre and Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet. She also trained at summer intensives at Joffrey Ballet School in NYC and locally at what was then called the NC School of the Arts (UNCSA). Christine also received a partial scholarship to study Dance at Butler University in Indianapolis, IN before beginning her professional dance career at Ballet Memphis and then Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre.
During her professional dance career, Christine began teaching at both Ballet Memphis and Pittsburgh Youth Ballet where she also served as Rehearsal Mistress for the school's affiliate company (Pittsburgh Ballet). After the conclusion of her professional career, Christine taught, choreographed, and developed curriculum for Bounds Dance Studio and Triangle Youth Ballet, both in Chapel Hill.
During this time, she choreographed original works, as well as set traditional ballets, working with both student performers and guest artists. In 2008, she received the Emerging Artist Grant from the Durham Arts Council for her choreography and twice served on the grant panel that selects new recipients for that award. She also collaborated with orchestras to bring live music to performances and worked closely with production crews to ensure performances were beautifully produced. As Associate Director of TYB, Christine was a collaborative partner with the Artistic Director, working to support the artistic staff and board of directors through creative problem solving and relationship building. During that time, she also worked collaboratively with the YMCA of Chapel Hill to develop a special education dance class.
Christine has spent the last seven years (2014-2021) as the Administrative Director of The Raleigh School of Ballet. There, she was able to continue her artistic work, while adding new administrative responsibilities. These included management of the school’s daily activities, overseeing office personnel, schedule coordination, correspondence with families, and collaborating with the directors on communication, management, and marketing decisions. Her artistic work included working with the affiliated non-profit company (Raleigh Dance Theatre) in setting choreography and running rehearsals.
Working with a non-profit company, Christine also implemented numerous educational outreach programs, created and implemented fundraisers, worked with corporate donors, and wrote grant proposals.
Christine's other dance experiences have included teaching at the collegiate level as a lecturer and substitute ballet teacher at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has attended multiple teacher training programs such as a Teacher Training Workshop at the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, a Vaganova Workshop offered by the Pennsylvania Academy of Ballet, and a Teacher Training Workshop led by renowned teacher David Howard.
"Since my professional stage career ended, I have spent decades working with non-profit companies and schools to help them become a positive force in their communities while providing professional training and quality choreographic programs. I have a passion for developing programs and classes that serve all abilities, making dance accessible to everyone." - Christine Cervino Grider
