Dear DCI Community,
After a long search process, I am thrilled to announce that Jolene Galpin will be the next DCI Middle School Principal! Jolene will officially start in July after she finishes up the school year at her current school in New Orleans.
Jolene Galpin has worked in education for nearly two decades, serving as a teacher, instructional coach, school leader, and charter network leader. Almost ten years of her experience has been as a Principal and Executive Director in both public and public charter schools. She is currently the CEO of Arise public charter schools in New Orleans after serving as executive director and principal at Mildred Osborne Charter School. During her time as principal there, the school earned an A Progress Rating in 2018 and 2019. You can view her Linkedin profile here.
Jolene impressed the interview committee with her strong interpersonal skills, reflective and thoughtful approach, and passion to be on the ground with students and staff as a school administrator. The committee was made up of a wide range of MS teachers, MS leadership, and senior leadership.
Jolene already had plans to move to DC and has been passionate about joining the DCI team since she learned about our organization back in the fall. See below for a few thoughts directly from her!
Jolene’s spring break is this week and she plans to be at DCI sitting in on classes, visiting with staff, and learning more about the DCI community. Later this spring and summer we also hope to have her on campus to meet families. Please join me in welcoming Jolene to the DCI community!
Sincerely,
Michael Rosskamm
Executive Director
From Jolene Galpin:
It is an honor to introduce myself as the new Middle School Principal of DC International School. As someone who views public education as a way to advocate for social justice, I feel strongly aligned to DCI’s mission and am thrilled to be joining a diverse school community where students and staff are encouraged to be activists for a socially just and sustainable world.
Born to a Puerto Rican mother of Spanish, African and Indigenous descent, and a father who is an Irish immigrant, I have been drawn to living and working in culturally and linguistically diverse communities. My family and I are thrilled to make DC our new home and know there will be so much for us to experience and learn in such an international city!
I can’t wait to jump in and get to know our community at a much more intimate level. I thrive in this work through strong relationships and have really enjoyed getting to know some of you through my interview process. I’m eager to meet you all and plan to be at DCI at various points throughout the Spring to meet students, staff, and families!
I have seen so many of the incredible strengths that this community has and I want to learn even more about the traditions, practices, and people that make DCI such a special community.
