Dear Hoboken,
We are thrilled to announce that our library is an award recipient of the Connecting Community Digital Initiative from the Library of Congress!
The name of our project is The Puerto Rican Experience in Hoboken and America.
We're looking for artifacts, folklore, memories, photos, remembrances, and stories from all Puerto Rican residents (and former residents) of Hoboken.
We want to know: What was it like when your family immigrated from Puerto Rico to Hoboken? What was it like growing up Puerto Rican in Hoboken? Are there important churches, stores, or places you and your family and friends used to visit? Are there important organizations you were a member of? Did some of your family and friends leave and go to the suburbs or back to Puerto Rico? Are there things (artifacts or items) that remind you of Puerto Rico? All of these questions, and many more that we probably haven't even though about, are important to our research.
By the end of the year, we'll organize this information into an online museum and your contributions would be helpful. So, please reach out to our Special Collections Manager, James Cox, at james.cox@hobokenlibrary.org if you have anything you'd like to share.
