Unity for Diversity
(Asian Pacific Islander, Raza de Sordx, Ebony, GSA & Feminist)
It was decided to work together during distance learning and promote awareness about our students' intersectional backgrounds. We rename the organization Unity for Diversity to honor our students' intersectional backgrounds. This organization is planning to host two events to bring entertainment during the pandemic. We will show Harriet Tubman's movie on February 24, 2021, at 6:30 pm. We extended an invite to have Pauline Dunn present on her experience following Harriet Tubman's 116-mile journey from the Underground Railroad. Come and listen to her story on March 3, 2021, at 4 pm (PST) 7 pm (EST).

On February 24, 2021, come and watch Harriet with us. We will have breakout sessions the next day to discuss the movie. This is an opportunity to critically examine Harriet Tubman's courage to face injustice and the risks she faced.

Unity for Diversity is hosting its annual National Racial Healing Day

Unity for Diversity called for folxs to teach us how to cook a meal on a budget to acknowledge and address food insecurity issues across the United States. In January 2021, CSD will post videos showing how to create inexpensive and healthy meals. CSD recognizes the hardship many people currently face due to COVID, and we hope the videos help inspire ideas in making tasty dishes. We are in this together.

Chess Club


The California School for the Deaf, Fremont Chess Club met to plan for our next Chess tournament on January 20th, 2021. Adam Kwolek, the club president, set up a club account through Chess.com. There, the club members can play against their classmates. Whoever comes out on top will be heralded as Chess Grandmaster of CSD, Fremont.

Trivia Cup Competition

Gallaudet University Trivia Cup
 
During the Fall of 2020, Gallaudet University hosted a Trivia Cup competition where high school students across the country competed against each other, answering general knowledge questions in different categories: Entertainment, Geography, Science & Technology, Math, U.S. Government & the 2020 Election, and Sports. Several of our students who are part of the Academic Bowl team participated and made CSD proud!
 
Our senior, Donovan Holmes, took home 1st place overall and a $1,500 Gallaudet scholarship, while our sophomore Chang-May Tan finished 3rd place overall and earned a $750 Gallaudet scholarship. Seniors Naomi Brock and Courtney Bronson finished in the top 10 overall – Naomi finished 7th, and Courtney tied for 10th. CSD was the only school with four students in the top ten, and these four players will represent CSD in the upcoming West Regional Academic Bowl competition in March.
