In the 1980's SCSCA sponsored the creation of the New Zealand Forest at the in the Seattle Arboretum. This has become a treasured part of the beautiful Seattle park that many have walked, biked, and enjoyed trees and flowers that have been transplanted from New Zealand and now are growing here. As a Sister City exchange with Christchurch, we placed a carved bench in NZ Forest ten years ago and an American bench was created and placed in Christchurch at Halswell Quarry.
As a mission to continue sharing our cultures and friendship, we have commissioned Caine Tauwhare, a Maori sculpture artist, to create a village pole, a Pou Whenua, to welcome visitors to the NZ Forest here in Seattle. The Arboretum Native American Advisory has approved the design and placement, and the artist, Caine is currently completing the carving. We will have a ceremonial installation this Spring. This is a beautiful connection of friendship and culture between our two beloved countries. We are raising funds for this project and are at about 60% of our $10,000 goal! We have $4,000 more to be raised. You can make your contribution now by clicking the button below. Every dollar helps -- Thank you!!!
