Lions Club Feature-

Daryl and Rosie Steil

This month we are proud to introduce Daryl and Rosie Steil from Rockville Minnesota. After attending a presentation that Advocates for Health gave to their Lions Club they were interested. The presentation showed how other local Lions Clubs had fundraised to place life-saving AEDs in outdoor smart monitored cabinets. The Steils decided to spearhead an initiative to make their community safer! They quickly assembled a committee of passionate volunteers who helped coordinate fundraising efforts throughout Rockville. To date, this effort has placed 9 Outdoor AED Smart Monitored Cabinets in the Rockville community. Click HERE to see all of the installation photos:

40 Under 40 Award

Kaitlyn Gilk was awarded the Citizen CPR Foundation's 40 under 40 award for her work with Sudden Cardiac Arrest. Kaitlyn raised over $22,000 at 16 years old to place Smart Monitored Outdoor AED Cabinets in her hometown. She did this in order to achieve the highest award in Girl Scouts, the Girl Scout Gold Award. She has the opportunity to fly to San Diego for the annual conference to accept the award and learn more about how she can help Advocate For Health continue to save lives.

Defib Facts of The Month

FAQ- What is an Outdoor AED Smart Monitored Cabinet?

-Outdoor: Our vision is that AEDs are accessible to the public 24/7. Oftentimes AEDs are located inside buildings. Placing an AED outdoors and available to the public is key to helping during a Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA)

-AED: An Automated External Defibrillator can be used by anyone and can help save a life during SCA. The AED will deliver a shock to a person in SCA only if it detects that it is needed. An AED will not shocker a person that does not need it.

-Smart: If the cabinet door is opened or the AED is taken out of the cabinet, a call center will be alerted of an emergency.

-Monitored: Since we want the AED to be available in an outdoor space, it is important to control the temperature of where the AED is stored. Heat and cold could cause an AED not be working properly. Our team is alerted if the temperature is too low or high or loses power.

-Cabinet: The stainless steel cabinet that houses the AED is weather-resistant to withstand the elements of all seasons.
