ALOHA KAKOU,

Though the seasons are subtle in our state, Fall is most certainly amongst us as we now can enjoy pumpkin lattes, slightly cooler weather, and a building anticipation as we move towards all of the various holidays we may celebrate.

Here at Anaina Hou we hope you were able to join us in October for the amazing Makana concert or the much-loved Pau Hana events. One of our personal favorites, Haunted Hale, never ceases to bring our staff joy and this year was no different. We are grateful to share this classic holiday with our local keiki and their families and want to say a huge Mahalo Nui Loa to all our volunteers, and to Kauai Fire Department & Ocean Safety for joining in the fun. Don’t fret however, we have much more to share with you; if you haven’t joined us yet for one of our Try Local activities such as our Culture to Canvas Paint & Sip Experience or our Locally Grown Culinary Experience at the Farmers Market, do stop by our website and sign up. I think you will be equally pleased with our December line-up so be sure to read through to the end of our new newsletter!

As wonderful as the holidays are they can also be a very

challenging time to those who are struggling. Our county is an extremely expensive place to live and the holidays can add the burden of sadness, depression and shame to those who may not be able to do what they wish they could for their families. Mayor Kawakami has proclaimed November as Homeless Awareness Month and so I invite you to consider making a gift to an organization that supports basic needs such as Kauai North Shore Food Pantry, YWCA, Malama Pono, or Catholic Charities to name only a few critical resources. They don’t call us the Aloha State for nothing!

Always with Gratitude,

Jill Lowry, Executive Director
