Dear   ,

I am very excited to welcome you to the 5778 school year of Berkeley-Oakland Midrasha! This year our Jewish teen community will be experiencing a lot of newness, accompanying the familiar. For the first time after decades of partnership, the Berkeley and Oakland Midrasha communities will be united as one. We are so happy that you are joining us in providing the Jewish teens of the East Bay access to meaningful, authentic Jewish learning and community.

Please find details below and watch for updates as we gear up for the beginning of the school year.

Now and always, please feel free to contact me for any reason. My door is open.

Kol tuv,
Mark

Weekly Programs
Berkeley-Oakland Midrasha has two weekly programs. Both are available to every Midrasha teen, though many teens choose to only participate in one aspect.

Ikar
Sundays 3:30-6:00pm @ Netivot Shalom
1316 University Ave., Berkeley

Ikar ("essence") is the central institution of Midrasha. Every Sunday, teens gather to learn and socialize. Ikar consists of a "core" class (grade level) and an elective. Forming the foundation of our curriculum, core classes challenge our teens with the most relevant issues and topics for their age group and provide a space to connect with their cohort. Every semester teens are offered a new slate of elective classes for second hour, running the gamut of potential interests. Electives are designed to offer access to the relevance of Jewish life in modes as diverse as our community. Midrasha has offered classes on food, text, music, social justice, pop culture, movies, philosophy, meditation, krav maga and on and on... our class listings for fall semester can be found on our website.

Beit Midrash
Wednesdays, 6:00-7:30pm @ Beth Israel
1620 Bancroft, Berkeley

Many Midrasha teens opt to participate in our weekly Beit Midrash class. This class affords the opportunity to engage with the unfiltered foundational Jewish texts - Torah, Tanach, Talmud - in an atmosphere that encourages curiosity and multiple readings. All experience levels welcome. If you would like to join the Beit Midrash class please email mark@midrasha.org.
