San Jose based architecture firm ABA has long been dedicated to supporting the next generation of architects. When invited to participate in the California Architectural Practice Experience (capX) program,, they eagerly stepped up to help shape its success.
"Internships have always been a key part of how our firm supports emerging talent, and the capX program has been a valuable addition," said Lee Salin, FAIA, ABA Principal. "Our firm leadership appreciates how capX helps students and recent graduates take their first steps in the profession. As the program grows and more firms get involved, we believe it will play a crucial role in preparing a strong new generation of architects."
capX is a statewide internship and job shadow program that connects individuals exploring the profession with firms committed to fostering emerging talent. Whether a firm is engaging with students for the first time, or expanding an existing firm internship program, capX offers a meaningful way to invest in the future of the profession. Through capX, ABA and fellow participating firms are increasing opportunities for hands-on learning experiences, giving students and recent graduates deeper insight into architectural practice.
ABA Intern Keiko Watanabe shared her experience: "What I found most helpful about the capX program was its accessibility and the support it provides. The guidance on making the most of internship and shadowing opportunities was invaluable, especially since these experiences can feel brief and fast-paced. I also appreciated the program’s commitment to continuous improvement, with opportunities for participants to give feedback. The effort to expand capX for future generations is inspiring, and I’m excited to see where it goes!"
