Welcome New CBS Aggies!

Hello, CBS,

Welcome to all of the new CBS Aggies in the classes of 2026 and 2028! As the leadership for undergraduate education in the UC Davis College of Biological Sciences (CBS), we eagerly anticipate your arrival on campus and at our College Welcome next Friday, September 20, 2024. Between now and then, read on for a few important updates and a roadmap of the Deans' News and Announcements (The DNA).

Each of the deans are holding decorative signs to welcome the incoming classes of 2024, 2025, 2026, and 2027. Dean Winey is holding a large cutout of a Tardigrade.

Let's start with three tickets to your success in CBS and at UC Davis:

#1: Take Advantage of Office Hours

Your instructors will have details about office hours in their course syllabuses or Canvas sites. Your faculty and TAs provide these office hours to answer your questions, guide your curiosity, and help you engage with course materials. Don't let them sit in an empty office. Take your questions and go early and often!

#2: Use the BASC!

When you have questions about your academic program—from your schedule to planning or completing your degree requirements—go to the Biology Academic Success Center (BASC)! BASC offers comprehensive advising for all CBS undergraduates and is your one-stop resource. They offer regular appointments, express advising, and in-person or Zoom options to meet your needs. You're not alone in this journey, and BASC is here to guide you every step of the way.

#3: Get Involved

Whether you get connected to research in a class, lab, or field site, engage in internship opportunities, participate in the BioLaunch Mentor Collective, or join one of the many CBS student clubs, these are your opportunities to build connections, find your passions, form study groups, and immerse yourself in the undergraduate experience. You'll find more details about these opportunities on the CBS website—and here in The DNA.

We look forward to meeting you next week at the CBS College Welcome. Until then, safe travels, good luck getting settled, and Go Ags!

Filming Notice:

During the College Welcome, we will have photographers and a drone operator capturing both ground and aerial footage to commemorate and share the highlights of the day. These photos and videos may be used for future promotional materials, social media and other UC Davis publications. If you prefer not to be recorded or photographed, we completely understand. While the aerial drone footage will cover the whole outdoor location from a distance, the places where we will capture closer-up images and footage of individuals will be evident and easy to avoid.
