Daybreak Writing Season

OCTOBER | 2024

As-salāmu ʿAlaykum,

Thank you for your interest in Daybreak Press's annual writing season! November is National Novel (or Nonfiction) Writing Month, and writers worldwide aim to complete 50,000 words of their novel or nonfiction project during those four weeks. To prepare for this writing marathon, we’ll use October, or Preptober, to get ready!

Daybreak Press will offer seven workshops in October and November to help you gear up for writing, publishing, and marketing your book. Topics will include world-building, character and setting development, the art of the romance novel, and tips on publishing and marketing. If you haven't already, sign up to receive Zoom links.

We will also host an in-person Meet & Greet at Rabata Cultural Center (RCC) on October 19 at 1:00 p.m. CST, immediately following Anse Najiyah's workshop on character and setting development. Chat with the Daybreak Press team, get your Writing Season questions answered, and celebrate with some delicious treats.

This November, the RCC will serve as the in-person Daybreak Open Writing Space, providing a space to work on your novel while connecting with fellow writers. Additionally, Daybreak Press will host an online writing space four days a week via Zoom. We'll share writing prompts designed to help you think creatively about your project while still working to meet your word-count goals.

The Writing Season will conclude with an end-of-season celebration and Open Mic Night on Thursday, November 21, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. This event will take place at the RCC and will be live-streamed for those attending online. We will celebrate our successes, share excerpts from our writing, and enjoy cake and awards!

We hope you make a friend, connect with the community, enhance your writing skills, and of course, meet your writing goal during this writing season!

We ask that you do not share Zoom links with anyone. Instead, ask them to sign up to receive their own links via rabata.info/writingseason.

If you are in Minnesota, please join us in-person at Rabata Cultural Center 3533 Lexington Ave N. Arden Hills, MN 55126.

Blessed Writing,
