Guiding Our Patients
Coming to a new healthcare facility while experiencing a significant health event can be an overwhelming time.

To help alleviate anxiety and confusion for our patients and their loved ones, Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare publishes an annual Patient Guide booklet.

This Guide is filled with helpful resources and services for our patients including how to order television services, where to find an ATM, when to expect their meals, how to receive Spiritual Care services, and more.

You can view our latest edition of our Patient Guide by clicking on the cover image to the left.
Physicians becoming well
While Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare is in the business of supporting the health and wellness of our patients and clients, ensuring Our People have a positive wellbeing is equally important.

That is why on February 7 th , Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare’s Medical Affairs Department hosted a Physician and Resident Wellness Event.

The event featured a delicious hot lunch, keynote speaker and team building activity, all in the name of physician fun.

Dr. Joy Albuquerque (pictured top left), Medical Director of the Physician Health Program, Ontario Medical Association, joined us for the event as keynote speaker with a CME Presentation on Physician Wellness. Attendees learned about the importance of physician health from an individual, community, and cultural perspective; the impacts and individual and systemic drivers of physician burnout and discovered some key tools for personal well-being and resilience.

Later in the afternoon a friendly competition broke out as Dr. Brian Burke, Program Medical Director of Mental Health and Addictions, lead the team building activity. The docs tested their Trivia knowledge with doctors Jeff Cohen, Dale Ziter, Phillip Tremblay, and Len Cortese (pictured top right) took home the winning title.

To make others well, we need to be well ourselves. Thank you to all of our physicians and residents who took part in the event.

Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare shows its
Local Love
As one of the most impoverished communities in our country where one out of every two children live in poverty in some areas, Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare knows that supporting local programs through our community partner, United Way/Centraide Windsor-Essex County, has life changing impacts.

That is why Our People continue to be committed to making donations to our organization’s annual United Way Workplace Campaign. Through payroll deductions, one time donations, or continuous giving, funds raised by our team greatly contribute to United Way’s efforts of reducing poverty and creating possibilities for children and youth in our region through their Cradle to Career focus.

From January 28 th to February 4 th , Our People showed their Local Love by giving generously, bringing our 2020 Campaign total nearing $30,000, with final donations still being counted. Our Campaign goal this year was to share the powerful messaging from United Way with even more of our staff and community and thanks to the passion of our dedicated Campaign Team and our United Way Account Representative, Ermanna Filice, we did just that; having impactful conversations and inspiring our colleagues to show their support.

As we conclude another successful campaign, all of us at Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare are humbled and privileged to be able to live our Vision of cultivating a healthier community alongside an amazing organization and community partner that is United Way.
A Century of Grace
On Saturday, February 8th, over 400 Grace Hospital Graduates, former employees, and community members with connections to the beloved Salvation Army Grace Hospital gathered to celebrate its 100-year legacy.

With a population boom in early the 20th century, there was a greater need for more hospital beds. Fredrick Martin, an Officer with the Salvation Army, convinced Windsor’s magistrate, Henry Ellis to sell his home and land to be used and expanded upon for a new hospital.

On February 1, 1920, Windsor’s second hospital, and the Salvation Army’s first general hospital was opened to carry on the Army’s mission of mercy.

Grace quickly became the place for patient-centred care and had a lasting impact on all those who walked through its doors. Grace is the Place quickly became the hospital’s mantra. Before its doors were officially closed in 2004, over 1,500 nurses were graduated from the hospital’s School of Nursing, tens of thousands of babies were welcomed into the world, and the entire Windsor-Essex community benefited from the care of Grace Hospital.

Today, over 100 years and numerous changes later, Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare stands today, proud to carry the Grace name now and into the future.

The Anniversary Celebration welcomed a number of dignitaries and special speakers who helped capture the essence of Grace and the truly special place that it was. Laughter, reunions, and love filled the halls of Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare throughout the joyous afternoon.

Additionally, Amazing Grace, built on a Shoestring and a Showering of Faith and Prayer , the story of Grace Hospital written by Marty Gervais was officially launched at the event. The publication beautifully captures the history of the hospital and the individuals who made it The Place.

Hard and soft cover copies of Amazing Grace are now available for purchase at both Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare Gift Shops, in the Tayfour and Emara Buildings, 1453 Prince Rd.
