MESSAGE FROM OUR CO-PRESIDENTS

Dear Members of the AAUW Greater Naples Branch,
Building Momentum for Gender Equality
As we enter February—a month that celebrates love, resilience, and solidarity—we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to advancing gender equality for women and girls. Through research, advocacy, and education, we continue working toward a world where equity is not an aspiration, but a reality for all.
This month, we invite you to join us in fostering inclusive conversations and strengthening our efforts to address the diverse experiences of women and girls through an intersectional lens. By grounding our work in integrity and evidence-based advocacy, we can dismantle barriers and drive meaningful, lasting change.
Together, guided by our shared values of nonpartisanship, truth, and inclusion, we are building a movement that honors every voice and paves the way for a more equitable future.
Thank you for your continued dedication and passion. Let’s keep moving forward—boldly, purposefully, and united.
Happy February!
Warm regards,
Lucy and Sylvia
Co-Presidents

It has been a strong finish for the Foundation. We obtained $5000 of support for STEAM from the Arthrex grant. We also got a $10,000 donation from the Hyman Foundation, neighbors of Laura Candris. Many others contributed in November and December for which we are grateful.
We applied to AAUW National for a Community Action Grant a new grant that has opened to AAUW affiliates to promote STEM programs. Our application requested $3500 and the grant was submitted October 6th for the 1st deadline for applications. We were one of only 5 affiliates to receive the award! The funds cover $2000 for the STEAM budgeted shortfall and $1500 to send one girl to Tech Trek.
Applications for scholarships opened December 1st. Encourage applications if you have contacts with students. Flyer at our website.
The Branch presented a program entitled Successful Career Strategies to the returning college students of the Immokalee Foundation funded by the Foundation. This opportunity to put on a program surfaced only in November. Jacky Territo, Ginger Kelley and Barb Richardson each presented a section of a program developed by Judith MacGregor. The Immokalee Foundation was thrilled with the program. Helping minorities in the community overcoming obstacles is of course a major Branch Goal. Well done ladies. Picture follows.

Education Ambassadors Update!
| | |
On Jan. 13, the Collier County Commissioners unanimously approved raising impact fees! This enables “growth to pay for growth”—putting more responsibility on developers and saving taxpayers millions of dollars. AAUW members-on-call who attended are greatly appreciated! Nancy Chism received a wonderful letter from the President of the school board, expressing gratitude for the in-depth study of this issue, and the collaborative effort that surely helped achieve this desired outcome.
For for more information about this specific issue and/or future initiatives of EA, please contact Nancy Chism or Nancy Dick.
