Welcome to Girls Inc. After School Enrichment Program (ASE) 2022-2023! 

We are so excited to welcome girls and families back to Girls Inc. for the 2022-2023 school year!
We will begin our After School Enrichment Program on Monday, August 22 at school dismissal time. Girls Inc. staff will be at designated pick up areas wearing our signature bold RED Girls Inc. shirts ready to welcome girls for a fun-pack afternoon!

SCHOOL PICK-UP INFORMATION
  • Aliso School
  • TK-5th grade pick up at 2:30 PM
  • Pick-Up Area: Girls Inc. members line up by the gate where student exit for school bus pick up. Staff will load girls into vans to drive to Girls Inc. campus.
  • Canalino School
  • TK-5th grade pick up at 2:30 PM
  • Pick-Up Area: Girls Inc. members line up by the back gate by the playground and kindergarten classrooms. Students will walk in small groups to the Girls Inc. campus.
  • Carpinteria Middle School
  • 6th-8th grade pick up at 3:00 PM
  • Pick-Up Area: Vans will be at pick-up area by tennis courts and back parking lot. up. Vans will leave at 3:10 PM. Please remind your student to arrive to van on time.
  • The Howard School (beginning on August 29th)
  • THS student pick up at 3:15 PM
  • Pick-Up Area: Girls Inc. vans will be at St. Josephs Church parking lot to pick up.

PICK UP FROM GIRLS INC.
Only individuals 18 and over on the emergency list can pick up a child. A photo ID must be provided. Check in at the front desk to add individuals to the pickup list. A sick child must be picked up within 30 minutes of notification.

We are asking parents to come into the office and provide a signature on our sign-in/out sheet when picking up their child. Please park your vehicle in a marked stall, come inside and ask for your child by first and last name, and our Membership Clerk will let you know which exit your child will meet you at. Please practice patience in the first weeks as we learn new faces and ask for IDs. Your child's safety is important to us!

If parents wish to visit classrooms on the first day, parents must sign in as visitors and receive a visitor sticker at the front desk.

GIRLS INC. PROGRAMMING
All groups will rotate through Strong, SMART, and Literacy classes on a weekly basis. Additionally, Groups 1-4 will receive self-defense classes from Girls Inc. Project Bold curriculum, and Culture and Art lessons. Groups 5-7 will complete the Girls Inc. leadership and personal development curricula "Catching Fire" and "In Our Own Hands", and the Girls Inc. HOMEWORK
We highly recommend picking up after 4:30 PM or between 5:00 and 5:30 PM for girls to receive the full Girls Inc. programming experience. Homework time starts at 4:30 PM and goes to 5:00 or 5:30 depending on homework assignments and grade level. If your child does not have homework, we have variety of educational games and activities, as well as cozy reading corners for girls to use! Please note that we are not a homework completion programs, but we will do our best to help your child during the time she is with us. If there are any academic issues or areas you would like us to help your child with, please let the front desk or Programs Director, Kenya Rodriguez know.

WHAT TO BRING AND LEAVE AT HOME
Girls Inc. provides an after school snack at 3:00 PM. We recommend sending your child with an extra snack she can eat at Girls Inc. in case she does not like the snack we serve or is extra hungry in the afternoon! Please bring a refillable water bottle every day and close-toed shoes. Please label lunchboxes, backpacks, and other belongs so we can make sure they find their way back to your student if lost.
Girls Inc. Fall Programs & Curricula

STRONG
Through Girls Inc. Strong programming, girls build a foundation for enjoying sports, adventure and physical activity throughout their lives. Girls develop movement and athletic skills, cooperative and competitive spirit, and healthy habits. They experience the benefits and excitement of taking positive risks that bolster their self-confidence and personal growth.

SMART
Girls Inc. SMART programming develops girls’ enthusiasm for and skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Through hands-on activities, girls explore, ask questions, persist, and solve problems. Girls learn about STEM careers so girls can come to view these careers as exciting and realistic options for themselves.

LITERACY
Girls Inc. Literacy inspires girls to use reading as a tool to discover new and exciting worlds and to learn new information about topics that interest them. Girls learn to think critically by forming connections between stories and their own lives, identifying with characters in books, and examining messages that books convey


K-3rd Grade
PROJECT BOLD
Through Girls Inc. Project BOLD, girls learn skills and strategies to lead safer lives in their homes, in relationships, in their communities, and online. Girls learn specific self-defense techniques and strategies as well as how to seek out and talk to caring adults about hurtful or dangerous situations.


CULTURE & ART
The Girls Inc. approach to Culture and Art lessons help enrich girls’ self-image by providing opportunities to celebrate holidays, reflect on their and others culture and heritage, and think about what defines who they are and what it means to be a part of a respectful, inclusive community.


4th-8th Grade
CATCHING FIRE
The curriculum Catching Fire helps girls ignite a flame of motivation by encouraging girls to find their "Sparks". Girls can uncover and delve into their Sparks with the support of engaged, committed adults. Girls will develop the skills and energy to propel them along a path to reaching their full potential. By sharing their Sparks with others, girls share the special contribution they bring to the world.


IN OUR OWN HANDS
Through Girls Inc. Leadership and Community Action, girls build leadership skills and create lasting social change through community action projects. With support from women in their communities, girls celebrate the heritage of girls and women as leaders and social change agents and realize their own power as community resources and trustees of the common good.

MEDIA LITERACY
Through Girls Inc. Media Literacy, girls increase their awareness of the scope and power of the media and the effects of media messages on girls and women.

 Media and Me (for girls ages 6 to 8) sets girls on a path of becoming critical media consumers and creators of media. In this component, girls celebrate positive roles for girls and women in media, investigate different types of media, consider fiction versus nonfiction media content, practice creating their own media messages, and discuss issues of concern such as violence and stereotypes in media.
Girls Inc. provides an after school snack at 3:00 PM. Please help us create a distraction-free environment and make sure toys, art kits and electronics including cell phones stay at home. School-assigned computers for educational purposes are allowed during homework time when used appropriately. For older students, cell phones should stay in their backpacks while at Girls Inc. If you need to communicate with your child, we please ask that you call the front desk as to not create a distraction during programming by calling or texting their cell phone.

BILLING & PARENT COMMUNICATION
Please check the information board and folders outside of the Girls Inc. building for updates and information. Monthly parent emails will be sent by Programs Director. Remind text messages are sent for group-specific reminders, schedule changes, or updates. Instructions on how to sign up for Remind messages is linked below. The Girls Inc. Calendar includes billing dates, holidays/closures, and other important dates is linked below.

Absences (no school pick-up) should be reported by 12:00 PM of that day. A $5 fee will be charged for non-reported absence. We bill monthly, invoices are created and due the 1st of each month. Schedule changes (switching from full-time to part-time) need to be made no later than the last day of the current month for the upcoming month. If you are signed up for recurring payments, they are processed the 5th of each month. A letter from our Executive Director regarding our billing policy is linked below.

Comenzaremos nuestros programas de después de escuela el lunes 22 de agosto cuando se acaben las clases. Las trabajadoras de Girls Inc. estarán listas para recoger a las niñas. Que busquen a las maestras portando las camisas ROJAS.
 
RECOGIMIENTO DE DESPUES DE ESCUELA

  • Área de recogimiento: Las niñas hacen fila en la barda y salida donde salen los estudiantes para el autobús. Estaremos esperando para llevarlas estudiantes por camioneta de Girls Inc.

  • Grados TK-5º se recoge a las 2:30 PM
  • Área de recogimiento: Las niñas hacen fila en la barda más cerca al parque El Carro cerca del edificio de kínder. Camináramos en grupos a Girls Inc.
  • Carpinteria Middle School
  • Grados 6º -8º se recoge a las 3:00 PM
  • Área de recogimiento: Las camionetas de Girls Inc. estarán en el estacionamiento cerca de las canchas de tenis y la piscina. Las camionetas se van a las 3:10 PM. Por favor recuérdele as su hija que este a tiempo.

RECOGER DE GIRLS INC.
Solamente personas mayores de edad y que estén en la lista de emergencia podrán recoger a su hija de Girls Inc. Les pedimos que enseñen una forma de identificación. Para agregar a más personas a la lista de emergencia hablen con la oficina. Si les avisamos que su hija esta mala, se requiere que la recojan entre 30 minutos del aviso.
 
Les pedimos que salgan de su vehículo para recoger a su hija. Entren a la oficina, den el nombre completo de su hija y esperen que le digan a cuál salida va a ir su hija. Por favor de tener paciencia en las primeras semanas mientras nos aprendemos los nombres nuevos y conocemos a las familias. ¡La seguridad de su hija es muy importante para Girls Inc.!

Si padres de familias quieren visitar los salones, tendrán que inscribirse como visitante y avisar a la oficina.

PROGRAMAS EDUCATIVOS DE GIRLS INC.
Todos los grupos tomaran clases de deportes (Strong), Ciencia (SMART), y Literatura cada semana. Adicionalmente, los grupos 1-4 recibirán clases de defensa personal del currículo de Girls Inc. Project BOLD, y clases de Arte y Cultura. Los grupos de 5-7 recibirán clases de desarrollo personal, liderazgo, y Literatura de los currículos de Girls Inc. “Catching Fire” (Enciénde de Energía), “In Our Own Hands” (En Nuestras Manos), y Conocimiento de los Medios de Comunicación (Media Literacy). TAREA
Le recomendamos que recojan a su hija después de las 4:30 PM o entre las 5 y 5:30 PM para que puedan tomar ventaja de todo los que ofrecen los programas educativos de Girls Inc. El tiempo de tarea comienza a las 4:30 PM y se acaba a las 5 o 5:30 depende de cuanta tarea tengan o el nivel académico de su hija. ¡Si su hija no tiene tarea ese día, tenemos juegos y actividades educativas, y logares cómodos donde puedan sentarse a leer! Nota importante: nuestros programas no cubren completar todas sus tareas escolares, pero no empeñamos en ayudarlas lo mas posible. Si su hija requiere ayuda adicional, por favor de comunicarse con la oficina o la directora de programas, Kenya Rodriguez.
 
QUE TRAER O DEJAR EN CASA
Girls Inc. provee un bocadillo nutritivo a las 3:00 PM. ¡Les recomendamos que manden a su hija con un bocadillo adicional en caso de que no les guste que sirvamos o tengan mucha hambre! Asegúrese de que traigan una botella de agua y zapato cerrados o tenis. Por favor pongan el nombre de su hija en su lonchera, mochila, y suéteres por si se les pierdes se lo podamos regresar.
 
Ayúdenos a crear un ambiente sin distracciones y asegúrese que no traigan juguetes, materiales de arte extras, o electrónicos incluyendo los teléfonos celulares. Las computadoras de la escuela se pueden usar durante el tiempo de tarea si la estudiante usa la computadora responsablemente. Para las estudiantes mayores, les pedimos que dejen sus teléfonos celulares en su mochila mientras estén en Girls Inc.

Si se necesita comunicarse con su hija cuando está en Girls Inc., por favor llame a la oficina y nosotros le podemos dar el mensaje así para no distraerla ni a las otras alumnas con mensajes de texto ni llamadas durante los programas educativos de Girls Inc.

DEPORTES (STRONG)
Con los programas de deportes (Strong) de Girls Inc., las niñas aprenden la fundación para disfrutar los deportes, la aventura, y la actividad física. Las niñas desarrollan la habilidad deportiva y atlética, actitudes positivas cuando en un equipo, y aprenden los beneficios de atletismo.
 
CIENCIA (SMART)
Los programas de SMART de Girls Inc. (ciencia) ayudan a desarrollar el gusto de las niñas hacia la ciencia, tecnología, ingeniería y matemáticas. Con actividades manuales, las niñas exploran, hacen preguntas, y luchan hacia como resolver los problemas. Las niñas también aprenden sobre las oportunidades de las carreras en la ciencia, tecnología, ingeniería y matemáticas para que ellas puedan ver que estas carreras son opciones para ellas cuando sean adultas.
 
LITERATURA
Literatura de Girls Inc. inspira a que las niñas lean para descubrir sobre temas interesantes e información nueva. Las niñas aprenden como pensar críticamente leyendo y haciendo comparaciones entro los cuentos y sus vidas actuales, identificándose con los personajes de los libros, y examinando los mensajes del texto.

DEFENSA PERSONAL
(PROJECT BOLD)
Con el currículo de Girls Inc. Project Bold, las niñas aprenden estrategias para cómo vivir más seguras en sus hogares, en sus amistades, en su comunidad, y en las redes social. Las niñas aprenden movimientos de defensa personal y como encontrar un adulto que las ayude si están en peligro.
 
 
ARTE Y CULTURA
El método de Girls Inc. para ensenar el arte y cultura ayuda a que las niñas valoren su propia identidad. Les damos oportunidades para celebrar y aprender sobre días festivos de su cultura y la cultura de otras personas al rededor del mundo. Las niñas también aprenden como ser parte de una comunidad donde se respetan y se aprecia las diferencias entre culturas y costumbres.
 
 
4o-8o Grado
ENCIENDE TU ENERGIA
(CATCHING FIRE)
El currículo de “Catching Fire” (Enciende tu Energía) ayuda a que las niñas encuentren la motivación en sí mismas. El currículo les ayuda a descubrir sus habilidades e intereses para que desarrollen todo su potencial y vean como ellas contribuyen al mundo.
 
EN NUESTAS MANOS
(IN OUR OWN HANDS)
El currículo de Liderazgo y Acción Comunitaria de Girls Inc, “In Our Own Hands” (En Nuestras Manos) les ensena a las niñas como ser lideres en su comunidad y como realizar cambios para mejorar el mundo. Con apoyo de las mujeres de la comunidad, las niñas celebran la importancia del liderazgo femenil, y aprenden que las niñas pueden hacer cambios positivos en su comunidad. 
 
CONOCIMIENTO DE LOS MEDIOS DE COMUNICACION
(MEDIA LITERACY)
El currículo de Conocimiento de los Medios de Comunicación, las niñas aprenden como distinguir los mensajes positivos y negativos de las películas, programas de televisión, comérciales, redes sociales y la música. Las clases de “Media and Me” para niñas de 6 a 8 anos ayuda a que las niñas piensen críticamente sobre los comerciales. En este currículo, las niñas celebran las formas positivas en que los medios de comunicación usan imágenes de niñas y mujeres, y como distinguir y decir no a los estereotipos y mensajes negativos y violentos de los medios.
FACTURAS Y COMMUNICACION A LOS PADRES
Por favor de revisar la carpeta de su hija y la pizarra blanca afuera de la oficina para obtener información. La directora de programas manda correos electrónicos mensualmente. Se mandan mensajes de texto de Remind con cambios de horarios y recordatorios. Instrucciones para inscribirse a los mensajes de Remind esta en el enlace abajo de la página. También incluido en los enlaces es el calendario de Girls Inc. que incluye fechas importantes, las fechas de días festivos, y fechas de vencimiento de facturas.

Falta de asistencia se deben reportar ante de las 12:00 PM ese mismo día. Una carga de $5 se agrega a su cuenta cuando no avisan a tiempo. Preparamos fracturas cada mes y se vencen el primer día del mes. Para cambios de horario, por ejemplo, tiempo completo a tiempo parcial, se debe hacer antes del último día del mes para que se aplique el cambio al próximo mes. Si esta inscrito para los pagos automáticos, se cobran el quinto día del mes. Una carta de la directora ejecutiva sobre la póliza de facturas está incluida en el enlace.
