HF Cristo Rey Family,
I would like to begin by sharing a story from the Bible in St. Matthew 8:23-27 about Jesus sleeping in the boat with the disciples during a violent storm. The disciples were terrified during the storm, because it was so overwhelming and powerful. The disciples thought they were going to die, because they were so focused on the power of the storm and not the Power that was with them in the boat. They obviously thought Jesus didn’t care. It wasn’t that He didn’t care, but that He knew that He had power over the storm. Jesus never left the boat but woke up and calmed the storm for the disciples.
The COVID-19 virus has come to our country, state, and city like a violent storm, but I want you to know that like the disciples and Jesus, we are together and God is with us. We are not going to focus on the storm, but the power we have through God to conquer this storm. This storm is not going to overtake Holy Family Cristo Rey Catholic High School, but it too shall pass. With that being said, I would like for everyone to be encouraged, especially the Class of 2020. Let’s use this situation as an opportunity to show ourselves
as a community, as the HF Cristo Rey Family.
Academically, we will continue with our e-learning platform,
HF Cristo Rey Connect
. Our scholars are to stay committed to high levels of learning standards as we stay connected with each other. We may not physically be in our building but we are still in this fight together and our scholars will continue to learn, grow, and excel!
HF Cristo Rey Connect has been created with the support of the Cristo Rey Network to provide scholars and teachers with the necessary support, resources, and time to provide our scholars with the best possible online education.
Teachers are still teaching essential skills to prepare our scholars for college and your support is needed. Please support your scholar’s education by ensuring they complete the daily check-in sheet with their first-period teacher and turn in all assignments. Your scholar’s work is being graded by teachers, and they will continue to have assessments or tests to complete along with final exams. We have not lowered our expectations!
You all are in my spirit and in my daily prayers. I speak life and blessings over you and your family. I thank God in advance for keeping you safe and protected. Please continue to stay safe and healthy.
