July 16: Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel

The Book of Kings tells us that Elijah prophesied the coming of the Messiah when the Lord revealed to him a sign at the top of Mount Carmel. In the 12th century, Our Lady of Mount Carmel appeared to St. Simon Stock and gave him the brown scapular that Catholics wear today to express our devotion to her.
