Back To School To Do List

Message from our HSC Co-Presidents

Dear Leigh Families,

We hope you are all staying safe and healthy. These are uncertain times for all of us for sure. Please know that our Home & School Club is here to provide support and connection for our Leigh community. Reach out to us at any time if you need anything or have any questions. We will help directly if we can, or help you figure out who best to connect with. Contact us any time at president@leighhsc.org.

We encourage you to connect with the Home & School Club and be a part of this wonderful community. Read our monthly newsletters and stay up to date with Home & School Club happenings, attend our monthly meetings (on Zoom for the foreseeable future), follow us on Facebook, and check out all of the resources on our website.

We want to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to all of the parents who helped us pivot during these past months and figure out how best to support our staff and our students in this new situation. With the help of a lot of parents we put several wonderful programs in place (Adulting 101, mental health resources etc). We want to continue supporting our community in any way we can, and we invite you to share any ideas or suggestions you may have to help our students, our staff, and our families through this current situation. We would love to hear from you.

We voted in our 2020-21 Board at our last HSC meeting in May. We are incredibly fortunate to serve alongside such a dedicated and enthusiastic team and we thank all of them for being so generous with their time and talents:

Each of our Board members and Committee Chairs works with a team of volunteers. Thank you to ALL of the parents on these teams – your support is very much appreciated. We also welcome and appreciate new members and would like to invite you to join our team. Additional parents are always welcome and we do need your help! If you would like to donate a few hours of your time during the year, please take a look at some of the options available here. Whatever your skillset is, we will find a role for you. Thank you to everyone for your support as we head in to the new school year. This is a challenging time for everyone and we are so grateful for our amazing Leigh community!

Donate to our Annual Giving Drive

The goal of the Leigh Home & School Club is to support the academic and social/emotional needs of all of our students. Our primary fundraiser is our Annual Giving Drive. Please take a look at our website to see where we spent parent donations in past years.

This year, given the budget cuts, the state of the economy, and our new mode of learning, there is more to support than ever before. Our priorities for the year ahead include …

  • Professional development
  • Mental health support
  • Student engagement
  • Distance learning support
  • Classroom resources
  • Teacher grants
  • Staff appreciation.

Please go to our website to donate online (or mail us a check: make payable to Leigh Home & School Club; mail to: Leigh Home & School Club, 5210 Leigh Ave, San Jose, CA 95124). You can also make a contribution through a stock donation.

Many local companies offer matching donations to school organizations. If you avail of this program you can double your donation to Leigh Home and School Club. Click on this link to see if your employer offers corporate matching and will match your donation.

Thank you for making a difference. Your support is greatly appreciated!

Volunteer Opportunities - Join Our Team!

We would like to invite you to join our team for the school year 2020-21. All skills and interests are needed. We typically have a variety of projects such as community building, financial management, communications, fundraising, project planning, gardening, writing, technology support, volunteer coordination, College & Career Center support, etc. We also need parents for once-off projects such as the Stampede 5K Run/Walk scheduled for May 16th, 2021, and Senior Grad Night in June 2021. This coming year, there may also be new tasks as the school navigates our new learning environment.

Being on the board or on one of our committees is a great way to support Leigh, to learn more about our school, and to get to know other parents in the community.
Volunteers Needed August 17th-19th - Textbook Distribution

Thank you to all of the amazing volunteers who have helped us this past week to organize and bag textbooks for our students. This has been a humungous task and we are so grateful for your help.

Help is still needed next week!

The volunteer shifts take place in the library and book room, with doors open and as much fresh air circulating as possible. We all wear masks and maintain social distancing practices. Volunteers can also choose to wear gloves.

The volunteer shifts involve lifting and carrying books to some degree. We have carts to help lessen the physical labor, but some amount of physical labor will be unavoidable. During each shift, we hope to switch people on and off the more laborious jobs to distribute the workload.

Please click on the button below to sign up to help. We greatly appreciate any support you can give. Thank you!

Order a face mask now and it will be delivered in September. If you purchased a mask prior to August 12th, we expect this order to be delivered around August 17th. At that time we will sort the masks for pickup and then send out further details on pickup times and locations.

Any questions, please contact Susan Smith at corresponding_sec@leighhsc.org
