Welcome to the Mighty Kids Triathlon 2023!

Thank you for registering for this year's Mighty Kids Triathlon - Saturday, August 5th (rainout Sunday, August 6th)! Race Day is quickly approaching! We are so excited for the new location and routes. We think you'll really like them. We are also pleased to announce that this year's race will be chip timed for accuracy!

Parent Meeting: Wednesday, August 2nd at 6pm at the Vernon Hills Park District Sullivan Community Center in the Aspen Room - 635 N. Aspen Drive, Vernon Hills. We will provide details regarding race day, preparing for the event, answer any questions you may have, and allow you to view the route.

Packet Pick-Up: We will have a couple of options for packet pick-up, including at the parent meeting. Please stay tuned for information on alternate options in the coming days.

If you have participated in a Mighty Kids Tri in the past, we still encourage attending the parent meeting as everything in new this year!

Race Start Times

8 - 12 year old race will start at 8am. Check-in will begin at 7:15am

6-7 year old race will start at 10:30am. Check in will begin at 9:45am

Please make sure your child's bike is safe to ride. Check the tire pressure. Make sure the chain is secure and that it is clean. Make sure the brakes work and check for any loose bolts. If your child's bike breaks during the event, they won't be able to finish the race. Here's a handy video to check the safety of your child's bike:

Bike Check in 5 Steps

Swim

The swim portion of the event will take place in an outdoor pool located at the Vernon Hills Park District Family Aquatic Center. Please have participants plan accordingly with sunscreen, towel, goggles, etc.

If your child needs to wear a personal flotation device for the swim, please let us know. It MUST be a US Coast Guard approved device. If your child needs any sort of special accommodations beyond a personal flotation vest, please contact us ASAP.

Bike

We will have LOTS of signs throughout the race, as well as volunteers/human arrows along the route to make sure participants are headed in the correct direction.

Once your child finishes the swim, he/she will exit the pool straight into our bike corral. We will have volunteers on hand to assist any child that has trouble finding his/her bike. Volunteers will also ensure each child has his/her helmet on properly before proceeding on the path. Your child will need to put on their clothes, shoes, and helmet. Helmets are required to participate. We will send out more details on transition stations soon.

One parent of a 6-7 year old may assist in their child in the bike corral.

Aspen Drive will be closed for the biking portion of the event.

8-12 Year Olds: will complete 2 Loops of the bike route. They must complete both loops to complete the full 2 miles.

6-7 Year Olds: will complete one loop for a total of 1 mile.

Run
Run: Once your child reaches the designated bike corral on the route, volunteers will help them drop their bike and start their run.

  • Water: There are three water stations along the route during the run portion for 8-12 years olds and two water stations for the 6-7 years olds. We will also have water and sports drinks available at the end of the race. Please note water and sport drinks are intended for participants only. Spectators will need to provide their own beverages.

Finish: Runners will all finish in the parking lot at the Sullivan Community Center. Finish photos will be taken by one of our community volunteers, but we do encourage parents/guardians/family members to take photos as well.
Emergency Services: Countryside Fire Department EMTs will be on-site for the entire duration of the race.

Please look out for further details regarding race day, parking, awards, and post race events. We will send out additional communication after our parent meeting.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the event or preparation, please email Lacy Velasquez, Lakeview Fitness Facility Manager and Heather Rabbitt, Lakeview Fitness Fitness Supervisor.

We look forward to seeing you for the Parent Meeting on Wednesday, August 2nd!

In the instance of severe weather, the race will be delayed to Sunday, August 6th. If the entire weekend is affected with inclement weather, the event will be canceled and a portion of the race registration price will be refunded. Unfortunately, we are unable to reschedule the event beyond August 6th.
