Welcome to Monday Mail!
From the Principal
Greetings! This was a special week for the community of Trickum Middle School as we became the recipient of a special gift from the Besharat Gallery in Atlanta. Mr. Besharat has chosen Trickum as a host for a collection of prints from the photographer Steve McCurry. Mr. McCurry is most famous for his "Afghan Girl" photo featured on the cover of National Geographic. The first installation occurred last Wednesday with the final installation scheduled for this Friday. Once complete, we will host an event for the community to showcase this amazing exhibit. Be on the lookout for details!

This Thursday marks a special day for Assistant Principal Gloria Thomas as she reaches 30 year in education and will retire from GCPS. Ms. Thomas has spent 14 years at Trickum and has impacted the lives of many. We will miss her but we wish her well in her retirement and hope that she doesn't stay too far from "home." We will honor Ms. Thomas along with all those retiring from Trickum this school year at our annual Years of Service Reception at the end of April.

Finally, this is the last week for rising 7th & 8th graders to apply for the yearlong connection of their choice. There is a story below with details or you can view all the information and links to the applications on our website.
READING ROCKS! And TMS students rock reading. Our Spring Book Fair is finally here and will be open all this week. We had a good opening day on Friday. Students will be able to attend the fair with their Language Arts class at a predetermined time. In addition, we are open during homeroom and Tiger Time (if the kids have their money) and students can come with a pass from any teacher during the day. We take cash, checks payable to Scholastic, credit cards and don't forget EWallet, an awesome and successful way to pay for your students' books without sending money to school.
We have another Division Championship team in the House!
Our READER's RALLY team won our division at the competition this past Saturday. Our Book Dragons were breathing orange and blue fire as they crushed their opponents in Division 2. They move on to the GCPS Championship to compete against other division champs on Tuesday, March 5th. On to victory you awesome readers and competitors! Congratulations!

Your feedback is important to us!
Please take a moment to let us know how we're doing by completing this GA DOE school climate survey. Trickum continues to achieve a 5-star climate rating. Your support and participation in this survey can help us maintain this rating for 2019. We use the feedback you provide on these periodic surveys to plan for the next school year.
The deadline for completion is this Friday.
We're already planning for next year:
Trickum Middle School students are required to take 2 connection classes each semester. For the 2019-20 school year, students will have several yearlong connections opportunities for which they can apply. The yearlong connections applications can be found on the TMS website  Click here. Students can apply for multiple yearlong connections and will be required to sign into their GCPS Google account to complete applications.  Applications close this Thursday, February 28, 2019.  Every student is required to take at least  one  yearlong connections or fine arts class (band, orchestra, chorus, or guitar) at Trickum MS. If a student is not selected for a yearlong, or is not in a fine arts class, then the student will  most  likely be placed in PE for the entire school year.

Summer Health and PE for rising 9th graders
Does your student need to free up his or her schedule to allow for band, theater, chorus, strings, or athletics?? If you answered yes, then you should consider allowing your student to take Health and Introduction to Lifetime Fitness (PE) during the summer of 2019 through the Parkview Community School located at Parkview High School. Click here for all the details or visit the TMS website or call Parkview Community School at 770-806-3796.
Keep an eye on your account!

Don't forget to keep an eye on your child's breakfast/lunch account over at MyPaymentsPlus. You can make life easier by setting up alerts when the balance runs low. Just look for the "Low Balance Notification" box, towards the top of the screen.

MPP also has a neat feature where you can use the "Auto Pay" button to automatically add a dollar amount of your choosing when your balance gets low.
Keep those BOXTOPS for EDUCATION coming!
Fundraising couldn't be easier
Did you know we get $.10 for each boxtop we collect? We have box top collection boxes located in each grade level's admin office. There is also a box in the media center. Save your Boxtops, bring them to school, drop them in one of the convenient boxes located in the school.   A super easy way for Trickum to earn money without spending an extra dime!
Interested in volunteering at Trickum? We have many opportunities to get involved: Activity Days, Color Run, PBIS Socials, Monthly Ticket Exchanges, Media Center, Box Tops, and more! Click here to see the options and to let us know where you would like to volunteer.

Thank you for supporting our school, our students and our community!
The community continues their support of our schools, students, and staff through generous grants. Read about it in the Communique.
