Welcome to Monday Mail!
From the Principal
Greetings,

Attendance and active participation are two important factors to being successful in school. Beginning today, our teachers will have an improved process in order to provide better feedback to the parents of digital learners regarding their student's participation in the daily live (synchronous) instructional time. More information is located below. We hope this improved process is helpful in providing pertinent information to parents.

Wednesday and Thursday of this week are Early Release day for conferences. Students will be released at 1:20pm each day. Please see the schedule below and plan accordingly. Conferences should already be scheduled, however, feel free to request one by contacting your child's homeroom teacher. Remember, not all middle school students have conferences during early release, however, all middle school parents who want a conference certainly can request one. Thanks.
Important Message Regarding Digital Learning Attendance
As we transition into the second nine weeks of the school year, Trickum is updating its attendance procedures for digital learners.

Starting Monday, October 19, teachers will take attendance for digital learners who are online during live instruction. Digital learners who are not present during live instruction will be marked with the code “NPD“ which stands for “Not Present Digitally.” Students who are present during live instruction will continue to be marked present digitally with the “DL“ in their teacher’s gradebook.

The new process is more aligned to our normal attendance procedures and the expectations of in-person students. More importantly, it will help families to better support their students as they can clearly see that their student was online during class and interacting with their teacher and classmates, not just logging on to the computer at some point during the day. This information will help families as they partner with the school to maximize their child(ren)’s school experience.

If you have any questions about this new process for capturing attendance, please contact your child(ren)'s grade level office.
Important Information about 2nd Semester
Beginning October 28th, Gwinnett parents and guardians will make a decision about how their children will learn during second semester, which begins January 6th. Like this semester, families may select either in-person instruction at school or digital learning at home. As students and families are familiar with these two options and what they entail, the decisions families make will be for the entire semester.

The Spring Instructional Preference Questionnaire will be available in your Parent Portal account October 28th through 11:59 p.m. on November 15th.

If you do not have a parent portal account, please click here to access the sign up form. Please email Drew Schoen with any questions regarding Parent Portal by clicking here.
Gwinnett Great Days of Service
Trickum will be collecting nonperishable items to help with Gwinnett Great Days of Service.

Donations will benefit individuals and families who have been impacted by the coronavirus. Together we make a difference in the lives of others in our community.

We will continue to collect items Monday, October 19th through Thursday, October 22nd. All items will be picked up for donation on Friday, October 23rd.

Students will need to drop off any donations to their grade level offices.

Requested Items: Canned Proteins, Tuna, Ham, Ravioli, Canned Soups & Fruits, Mac & Cheese, Peanut Butter & Jelly, Personal Care Items - Toothbrushes, Toothpaste, Shampoo, Deodorant, Soap, Toilet Paper, Laundry Detergent Pods, Hand Sanitizer, and Disinfectant Wipes.

Updated TMS Parent's Guide to Digital and In-Person Learning
The Parent's Guide to Digital and In-Person Learning has been UPDATED on our Trickum website under Tiger News. Please make sure to keep this document handy as it contains all of the important information you will need as we navigate through this school year.

Please notice the change in the schedule for Fridays for ALL grade levels.

Remember, we are all in this together!

All students returning for in-person learning are strongly advised to bring a device with them to school each day as teachers will continue to utilize a digital learning platform to serve all of their students, and in-person students using their own devices will minimize sharing and reduce any potential spread of germs.
