Welcome to Monday Mail!
From the Principal
Greetings,

Happy Monday!! Final exams begin today and continue through Thursday. Click HERE for the full schedule. Please check the parent portal to stay up-to-date with final grades, however, the district will be mailing official report cards the week of January 18th.

As we close out this extremely difficult semester, I can't be more proud of the way in which our entire community has responded to the changes in our once "normal" school structure. Our teachers, students and parents have all made the necessary adjustments to keep learning as our focus, regardless of our learning format. A simply thank you is just not enough, yet it is all I've got. As we go into this holiday season, I wish each of you the peace and comfort that hope brings. Please rest and relax, as we all certainly deserve it. Here's to a happy and hopeful 2021!!
Final Exams will be given this week:
Monday, December 14 - Thursday, December 17

Let's finish first semester strong!!

We will utilize a block schedule on Monday/Tuesday and then again on Wednesday/Thursday.

Trickum PTSA Holiday Gift Card Sale Fundraiser
Trickum PTSA is kicking off our Holiday Gift Card Sale Fundraiser. This is a perfect way to get your holiday shopping done, avoid the stores, and give back to Trickum PTSA. After purchasing a gift card, no extra money comes out of your pocket to support the school!

What: Purchase gift cards online from 700+ vendors. $5 and $10 gift cards are available.
When: Starting now until Christmas Day
How: Go to www.shopwithscrip.com. Enter our enrollment code: 24E8BLB3749L6. Purchase a gift card(s) with your credit card (please do not pick the check option, this will delay getting your gift card). You can then immediately print an e-gift card. Another option is to email the e-gift card to the recipient. If you would prefer to have a physical card, you can do this by ordering through the app www.raiseright.com, not the website.

Also spread the word to family, friends, and neighbors. You do not need to have a child at Trickum to participate, just the enrollment code. Holiday shopping done!

Thank you for your continued support of Trickum PTSA!

Mr. Wells' Theatre Arts classes have been participating in a lot of creative writing assignments. The students write and perform their poems in class. Here is one written by 8th grader, William Pearson, in Advanced Drama. He will perform his poem in class for his Final.
A Reflection On The School Year, So Far

The flicker of a screen is not the same.
Inherently.
Not the same as a real movement,
Lagging, falling behind, imperfect enough to be false:
Tiring.
I manage. We manage.
We scrape by.
But that’s all.
We have no rich and luscious gardens, only window boxes.
Windows to a screen that is not the same.
Not the same as life, but we’re still here.
Still together. Perhaps, distant enough to be near.

We all step into this with a fresh face.
This will be better.
This will still work.
It’s not until a day later.
A day later, it crashes down on us.
Me.
Everyone.
No. No, it won’t.
This is no better.
Last year was chaos.
Everything was torn apart,
Frustration, pain, stress, laid naked and bare,
Clear as day.
This is the same.
And still.
Moments sneak in.
Laughs, smiles, some interesting background that catches your eye,
And that’s enough.
That’s all.
That’ll get us through.
We start our poem with flowery words,
Pointless speeches, sucking like leeches, what actually needs to be heard.
And, of course, when knocked off our high horse, we see that it needs some change.
We twist, we tweak, highlight/delete, until we have a poem on the opposite end of the range,
Clear, precise, (we hope), it’s alright, now it’s something, it’s looking bright,
Though we’re getting there, there’s still work ahead, still homework in the night,
But with what this year’s been, surely, surely, that isn’t the worst,
To create something, to write with hope, to laugh and pen and print,
I swear, for hope-giving, this has made a dent.
We.
I.
We. We are here, in stress, we are all in pain.
Of course.
Every day is another tear shed,
Every day is another choked whisper for this to end,
Every day is a wish for the virus to stop,
For us to return
Home.
A true home, a home in which we can leave,
A Home where we can smile,
And laugh,
And not just for the little moments.
Home.
Such a warm concept.
Home.
Where everything belongs.
Where everything belongs in its grand circle of stars.
Where there is a school that works.
Home.
Home.

Though the flicker of the screen is not the same,
We will survive it. Inherently.
We will see real movement,
Smiles, pen and print and moments:
In the flesh.
We’ll thrive.
We’ll stretch our arms wide and our window boxes will
Stretch into vineyards.
Under trees, we will cry. But together.
We will smile in those moments. Together.
We will see. We will wish. Together, our pains will meld, mosaic tile.
Soon. Close, and soon, we’ll be free. And smile.

Important Message Regarding Digital Learning Attendance
Trickum has updated its attendance procedures for digital learners.

Teachers are now taking attendance for digital learners who are online during live instruction. Digital learners who are not present during live instruction will be marked with the code “NPD“ which stands for “Not Present Digitally.” Students who are present during live instruction will continue to be marked present digitally with the “DL“ in their teacher’s gradebook.

The new process is more aligned to our normal attendance procedures and the expectations of in-person students. More importantly, it will help families to better support their students as they can clearly see that their student was online during class and interacting with their teacher and classmates, not just logging on to the computer at some point during the day. This information will help families as they partner with the school to maximize their child(ren)’s school experience.

If you have any questions about this new process for capturing attendance, please contact your child(ren)'s grade level office.
Thank you to those of you who have submitted positive feedback for teachers or staff members! This link will be continually monitored, so feel free to drop a kudos in whenever you see or hear about your child's teacher or another staff member doing something great. We'll be sure to let them know and help brighten their day!

Updated TMS Parent's Guide to Digital and In-Person Learning
The Parent's Guide to Digital and In-Person Learning has been UPDATED on our Trickum website under Tiger News. Please make sure to keep this document handy as it contains all of the important information you will need as we navigate through this school year.

Please notice the change in the schedule for Fridays for ALL grade levels.

Remember, we are all in this together!

All students returning for in-person learning are strongly advised to bring a device with them to school each day as teachers will continue to utilize a digital learning platform to serve all of their students, and in-person students using their own devices will minimize sharing and reduce any potential spread of germs.

Does your student need a device or a hotspot?
For families in need, we have a limited number of Chromebooks for checkout available to assist students during digital learning.

** HOTSPOTS AVAILABLE**

If you are experiencing issues with the internet in your home or if problems arise in the future, please contact Kelly Gresham. We have hotspots available for distribution.

You can contact Kelly Gresham at [email protected].

Each day's pick-up includes both breakfast and lunch. Individuals will NOT be allowed to enter the school to pick up or eat meals. Trickum's curbside-pickup will be the same as it was for material pick-up. You will enter the lower parking lot at the traffic light and then drive on the gravel driveway around the back of the school to the outdoor theater.
