The Trickum Social Studies department would like to honor Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs from September 15th-October 15th. Today is about the piñata. Some say this tradition originated in China, while others believe it originated in the Mayan culture of Mexico. In Spain, the first piñatas were made of clay and overtime bright colors and designs were added. Piñatas historically have spiritual importance, but in this day in age, they are a huge “hit” for birthday parties. They are one of the most widely popular Mexican traditions today.
