Dear Team,
October marks the beginning of Fall. This year, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and end-of-the-year celebrations will likely look really different. As the days get shorter and the temperatures get colder, we will all face challenges with staying safely socially distanced and also meaningfully socially connected.
One way that we hope to improve communication is by combining the Kids Matter monthly newsletter with the WCH Communication and Culture monthly newsletter. Our hope is to decrease inbox clutter and to make it easier for you to find important announcements and information all in one place! We'd love to hear your ideas and suggestions for how to make this “new” newsletter accessible and useful for you, as well as what the official name of this newsletter should be! Please email your suggestions.
Fall is also a time when the inner child in us may still experience the excitement of the weather changing and when the magical colors of the turning leaves come with promise of celebrations and fun. Deep down, each of us has the same hopes, dreams, and aspirations for a better future-- both personally and at work.
As we mourn together the toll that COVID-19 has taken on us as a society, and the persistence of racial disparities and injustices, let us also strive to invoke with that spirit of joy, hope, excitement, and creativity and use that to help us stay connected and to fulfill our missions. We all share the common goals of excellence in clinical care, research, training, and the well-being of the families we care for and each other. Let’s imagine together where we want to go and how we will get there.
Thank you for all that you do, and Happy Fall!
Jef, Billy, Ann, Karin, and Jim

Congratulations, Jim Nataro!
September marked the 10 year anniversary of Jim being the Chair of Pediatrics. The Department has grown so much during his time, and the staff and faculty celebrated him during September’s faculty meeting by surprising him with a video montage of the last ten years. Also, on September 26, a socially distanced party was hosted at Camp Holiday Trails. Thank you, Jim, for your 10 years of service!
