Artist Spotlight: Tracey Jones, aka “Artist Jones”
Tracey Jones, known professionally as “Artist Jones,” uses her work to preserve stories, honor culture, and shift perspective.
Originally from Coatesville, PA, Artist Jones is a muralist, painter, and graphic designer whose bold mixed-media works explore the hidden influence of character, legacy, and cultural identity. A graduate of Arcadia University with a BFA in Graphic Design, Artist Jones has spent years developing a visual language that captures stories often overlooked or forgotten.
Working primarily in acrylic and mixed media, Artist Jones creates visually layered pieces that invite viewers into moments of reflection and discovery. Her art centers Black and Brown cultures, illuminating stories that deserve to be remembered and celebrated. Each piece combines bold portraiture with dynamic backgrounds. “We are the creative documentarians who tell the stories of our time,” Artist Jones says. “By evoking emotion through art, we bring viewers to new perspectives.”
Her work has earned recognition throughout Tampa Bay and beyond. Artist Jones has exhibited at prestigious venues and events including the Black Art Gala, the Green Book and Studio@620 Annual Artist Exhibit, Spectrum Miami, the Hard Rock Casino in both Miami and Tampa, the SHINE Mural Festival, and the Gasparilla Fine Art Festival. She has also collaborated with major brands and organizations including the Tampa Bay Lightning, Tampa Bay Rays, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Outback Steakhouse, Walmart, PSTA, and 7th + Grove. Notably, she served as the sole muralist for multiple Outback Steakhouse locations and designed both Tampa Bay Lightning Pride Night mystery pucks and jerseys for 2025 and 2026.
Artist Jones was recognized as Runner-Up for Best of the Bay Visual Artist, but for her, the true reward lies in storytelling and cultural preservation. Her artistic collaborations also include local creatives Fabstraq, ArtXTony, and Merritt Huran Capurro, reinforcing her commitment to building community through creativity. Her work seeks to bring awareness to the lost histories of underrepresented communities while inspiring conversations that connect people across experiences and generations.
For the past four years, Green Book of Tampa Bay has been part of that journey. What drew her to the organization was simple but powerful: community. “It brought me closer to my community,” she shares.
Looking ahead, Artist Jones hopes to expand her work internationally while continuing to create meaningful public art that uplifts communities and preserves culture. She is also a proud mother of three, balancing artistry, family, and community impact with remarkable intention. Her favorite quote, by August Wilson, perfectly captures her journey: “Have a belief in yourself that is bigger than anyone’s disbelief.”
Outside of the studio, Jones is inspired by travel, discovery, and lifelong learning. One of her most unique life experiences was living in Singapore for three years as a child, where she traveled extensively with her family and even participated in an exchange student program in Indonesia. Those global experiences continue to shape her artistic perspective today. When asked what fuels her creativity, her answer reflects the heart of her work: “The necessity to learn new stories and share them with the world.”
