JANUARY 2026

A Welcome Message from Our Library Director

Welcome to the return of the Mamaroneck Public Library newsletter! It has been several years since our last issue, and we are delighted to reconnect with you in this way. We are excited to share news, stories, and updates that reflect our continued growth and renewed energy.

The Library is more than a building of books. It’s a vibrant community hub where curiosity grows, connections thrive, and everyone feels welcome. As we bring back this newsletter, our goal is to keep you informed and inspired. Inside, you’ll find highlights of upcoming programs, services for all ages, community initiatives, and the many ways the Library continues to evolve. We hope it helps you stay connected to everything your Library has to offer.

Thank you for your ongoing support and for being such an essential part of our Library community. We look forward to sharing this new chapter with you.

Year End Appeal

WOW! A huge thank you to all of our donors - your generosity helps sustain what the Library offers to the community. Our goal this year was $40,000 and because of your support, we raised over $48,000 and counting!

The Teen Scene Has Arrived!

We’re excited to announce a Grand Re-Opening and fresh new beginning for our Teen Room. Join us on Friday, January 30, from 3 to 5 pm as we officially reopen this space created especially for teens in grades 7–12. This Luau-themed celebration is the perfect chance to meet our new Teen Librarian, play some fun games, and enjoy a splash of tropical vibes—right in the middle of winter! Escape the cold, connect with friends, and discover all the programs and services the Teen Room has to offer. We’re thrilled to welcome our teen community back into this space and can’t wait to celebrate with you. We hope to see you there!

The Library has begun hosting a monthly music event as part of a year-long program sponsored by one of our very generous donors. The first performance was held on January 17, when we hosted Argentinian classical guitarist Carlos Pavan. A great time was had by all!

Performances will be held on Saturday afternoons. Next up: on February 14, we will host a Beatles tribute band — Register HERE. Registration is filling up quickly so make sure to secure your spot. Looking ahead to March, our next concert will feature a cello performance by Alexander Prizgintas.

Our librarians are always thinking about new program offerings for our community. On March 7, 2026, we are offering Madcap Mysteries at 1:00 pm in the Community Room.

Step into the shady glamour of a speakeasy right here at the Library! We are thrilled to host Madcap Mysteries, an immersive experience where every guest is deputized to crack the case. Led by Detective Frankie Horsham (aka improv comedian Walt Fraiser), you will hunt for clues, interrogate costumed suspects, and help solve a completely original mystery. Speakeasy attire is encouraged, and you are welcome to bring non-alcoholic beverages and snacks to share during the opening social hour. To register, please click here.

The site also provides information on all of our services, including our very popular museum passes, as well as our financial information and Board meetings, including schedules, Board packets, and meeting minutes.

STAFF SPOTLIGHT

This quarter, we’re highlighting a familiar face whose journey reflects our mission to nurture talent and promote from within:

Sally Matthews, our newly promoted part-time Children’s Librarian, first joined MPL in 2021 as a circulation clerk, originally just a college job while planning for a career in elementary education. But along the way, she fell in love with library work and discovered that becoming a children’s librarian combined everything she cared about.

With dedication and enthusiasm, Sally earned her Master of Library Science from Queens College in June 2025. We’re proud to celebrate her hard work and the passion she brings to serving young patrons and their families.

Her story is a wonderful reminder of what we value at MPL: supporting growth, recognizing dedication, and celebrating the talent within our team. We can’t wait to see what her future holds.

Your Voice Shapes Our Story

We love hearing from our patrons! A few of our most recent testimonials:

“I love spending time at the library — It's such a great environment to study, and I'm so grateful for all of the hard-working staff there!"

“How dismal life would be without the library!”
