WELCOME TO POETRY OUT LOUD 2023
In the wake of hurricane Ian, our thoughts are with our communities that experienced hardship. Some of our Florida communities may be dealing with the aftermath of the hurricane and we hope for a safe and a quick recovery.
We are excited to announce our 2023 Poetry Out Loud season. Poetry Out Loud is a national arts education program that encourages the study of great poetry by offering free educational materials and a dynamic recitation competition for high school students across the country. This program helps students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about literary history and contemporary life. Poetry Out Loud is a partnership of the National Endowment for the Arts, Poetry Foundation, and the state and jurisdictional arts agencies.
Since 2005, Poetry Out Loud has grown to reach more than 4.1 million students and 68,000 teachers from 17,000 schools and organizations in every state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, and American Samoa.
USF’s St. Petersburg campus is proud to host the Florida Poetry Out Loud State Competition. Last year over 6,000 high school students from across the state participated in Poetry Out Loud. We invite you and your students to be a part of this exceptional program.

The co-coordinators of Poetry Out Loud and last year's judges hosted two information sessions last year. Would you be interested in that opportunity again? If so, please complete this doodle poll to share your availability. Also, we encourage teachers/directors that have previously participated to join as well, to offer suggestions and ask/answer questions.
