Welcome February --
Thank you to all of you who supported our Catholic Schools Week. We definitely are learning, serving, leading and succeeding here at Sacred Heart. The bishop used this theme in his homily on Thursday to focus our students on the importance of Catholic education. The week was filled with a lot of fun and educational activities for our students and families.
The students in 3rd - 8th grade got to experience the Deanery Mass at St. Joseph's on Thursday with Bishop Hartmayer presiding. They also had the opportunity to listen to Fr. Fred chat about his vocation. The Kinder - 8th graders were blessed with the local Trinitarian Sisters visiting their classrooms teaching them about listening to God to hear his word for each of their vocations in life. Fr. Stephen did a great job talking about vocations at the school mass on Wednesday as well. This would be a great topic to discuss with your students to see if they understand the concept of a vocation in life and chat with them about your vocation in your life. How have you been called by God to serve him?
Our Home and School Association did many things to make this past week special to celebrate our Catholic school and faith. HUGE THANK YOU TO ALL OF THE HSA FOLKS FOR YOUR COMMITMENT TO OUR STUDENTS!!! I hope each one of you will continue to serve our school and encourage others to jump in as well.
The
Around the World Cultural Night
was a big success. I really enjoyed seeing so many families out celebrating with the staff. Thank you to so many of you who brought the yummy food from your culture. Thank you to all of our students who sang for us at the event. A big thanks to all of our teachers who came out to celebrate with us. The HSA did a wonderful job!! We will DEFINITELY have this event again next year.
Virtues in Practice
-- Prudence -- what does this really mean when we talk about prudence as a virtue? Talk to your students about ways in which they can be prudent in their daily lives.
Re-Registration
-- Thank you to SOOO many of you who have turned in your re-registration paperwork and secured your place in your student's class. We appreciate the effort.
Dinner Auction
-- February 22nd -- please purchase your tickets for our fun night coming soon. This is one of two fundraisers we have here at Sacred Heart so we need your support. If you want to volunteer the night of the event or in the next 3 weeks to help prepare the event, please contact Mrs. Wendy Jackson at the school office. We can use your help.
***** Note to 8th Grade Parents -- the 8th graders will be the servers for the Dinner Auction again this year. This is a fun opportunity for them to serve our community. Please plan to attend with your 8th graders. They will wear their mass uniforms and will have a special apron they will wear with it. They will need to arrive at 5 pm and stay through cleanup. We are always done by 11 pm. Also -- I LOVE the 8th grade Art Project so get your paddles ready to bid on this masterpiece.
Please continue to communicate with me. I am always available to talk about your student's success or any concerns you may have to support our school and make it stronger day by day.
Thank you Mary Dolan for updating our newsletter format and colors. You are very talented. I appreciate all of the graphic artist support you provide our school.
In His service,
Al Chromy

Diego Sears was the first from the region to earn and be recognized as the worldwide top scorer in the Achieve3000 program. Mrs.Hammond rewarded his accomplishment with a balloon and a gift card to Target, and she also brought cupcakes for the entire class. What became equally as exciting was the way Diego's peers joined in celebrating his achievement.

It's Soccer Time!

- Practices will be on Mondays, Wednesdays, & Thursdays at old Pearl and practice time is 4:00 - 5:15.

- Parents will be responsible for pick up from practice at old Pearl. Please be on time in consideration of our volunteer coaches.
- Players will need to have a change of clothes, shinguards, soccer cleats, & water bottle(s) for practice. There are no restroom facilities at the old Pearl field. Snacks are optional, but recommended.

Child sexual abuse is a worldwide public health issue. Child abuse, particularly child sexual abuse, is reprehensible—especially when the wrongdoer is affiliated with the Church/School. The VIRTUS programs assist the Church/School in being a safe haven for children and a messenger for preventing child sexual abuse within the Church/School and society in general. We seek to achieve this lofty goal through our child sexual abuse prevention program:
Protecting God's Children
.
Anyone who will have contact with our students here at SHCS MUST be VIRTUS trained. That includes volunteering at any capacity within our school from classroom parties to lunch support to field trips. We take this very seriously, as we should, and will NOT allow anyone not VIRTUS trained to participate on any level. There are classes held monthly on various days and times in hopes that everyone can attend. Please visit
virtusonline.org
to create your account and sign up for a upcoming class today! Classes held at SHCS can be found on our
school calendar
and on the main VIRTUS website.
Please contact
Wendy Jackson
if you have any questions or concerns.
*Due to graphic content, children are not allowed to attend*

Operation RoundUp. Participating members allow Flint Energies to round up their electric bill to the next whole dollar. Your contribution would then be pooled with those from other participants and distributed to worthy causes. A few cents doesn't sound like much, but if every Flint Energies member participated they could round up more than $500,000 per year. All contributions are tax deductible as well! Please
