Fall is governed by the element of AIR, which has the qualities of dry, movement, cold and light.
The organs which need the most support during this season are lungs (yin) and large intestine (yang).
The emotions associated with these organs, and time of year, are grief and sadness.
Fall is also a time of harvest; organizing and letting go. This makes this season a wonderful time to perform a cleanse and ample time to go within.
So how do we make the best out of this season and ensure we stay well and thriving?
Here are some of my favorite ways to do so!
Take daily time for Gratitude - even 5 minutes of focusing on what you have and enjoy can create long lasting effects.
Wear a scarf - with the dry and coolness of air, it can be very helpful to keep the neck warm to prevent imbalances associated with fall.
Eat more warming foods and foods that are easy to digest, like soups and stews. Focus on eating foods that are sweet, salty and sour while minimizing cooling, astringent and bitter foods.
Focus on self-care and exercises that strengthen the lungs. Breath work, consciously breathing through your nose, walking outside, great oral care (which will be the topic of this month's Quantum Conversations).
Use more oils as they are warming and the opposite of the dryness of the season. -for self massage and to keep your sinuses lubricated. I love Nasya oil from Banyan Botanicals.
Keep and/or create a routine. This will combat the chaotic energy that is associated with the element of air. It will also help you stay grounded at a time when it is easy to 'get swept off your feet'.
This is a great time for a cleanse! Fall cleanses will help to reduce, or eliminate, the excess air that may be accumulated in the body. It will also support more groundedness and add to your sense of routine.
Prioritize stress reduction. I share more about my favorite ways to do so, below.
