Message from the Principal

Greetings! My name is Steve Larson, and I am proud to be the new principal at St. John's High School. I have been on board for about four weeks and in this time have been overwhelmed by the kindness of our students, our teachers, and our community. Not only are the people here amazing, but also they will serve as our greatest asset as we pursue our goal of graduation for all, making our students both career and college ready.

Over the next few months we will be working on our Student Achievement Plan. With our Centennial only 6 years away (2026), we have some aggressive goals that we need to accomplish. If you see yourself as a part of our community, please know that we will be counting on your support to reach these goals. Stay tuned to learn how.

Until then, please come by to say hello. If it's been years since you've been in a high school, I'll give you a guided tour. You'll be amazed at what our kids are doing.

Media Spotlight

CCSD Today came to Johns Island. Principal Benintendo from Haut Gap Middle School and Principal Larson from St. John's High School were both interviewed about the future of District 9 Education (Wadmalaw and Johns Islands).

Staff Highlight

Meet Yvette Miller. Ms. Miller is our Gear Up Counselor. Having been an educator for 47 years, Ms. Miller has been responsible for caring for our graduating seniors since they were in the 7th grade! Ms. Miller is one of the kindest people we know and has made such an amazing difference in these students' lives. We will miss her smiling face and reassuring presence as her grant has come to a close.

Student Highlight

Meet Jalen Hammond. Jalen is currently a Junior at St. John's and is turning heads left and right! Not only is he an impressive running back on our St. John's Football Team (2017 Region Champs), he is also Captain of his Wrestling team, AND he is ranked 19th out of his entire class.

While Jalen intends to participate in our Teacher Cadet program, he is looking seriously at careers in Biology or Sports Science. Jalen likes to spend time with his dog and play basketball with his friends. Personally, I can say that Jalen is one of the nicest people I've meet, a leader in our school, and definitely a Mighty Islander.
