A Message from the Principal

Looking ahead, spring and the warmer weather will offer us more opportunities to gather outdoors for transition activities. These activities will provide students at St. John Paul lI and St. Leo Catholic Schools with an opportunity to meet each other and learn together, while ensuring safety protocol are adhered.

Until then, I invite you to watch the video tour below highlighting the interior of our school, student artwork, our learning commons (library) and gymnasium.

I am here to support your family's transition to St. Leo Catholic School for French Immersion. Our students are excited to make new friends. I invite you to subscribe to our school website calendar and news for the latest updated and events happening at our school to keep you informed, while helping to build a stronger sense of community and belonging.

This Easter may we gather as a community of hope and take time to bear witness to the importance of faith in our lives. On behalf of our students and staff, we wish you peace in your heart, harmony with your family, and joy in the resurrection of Jesus. May the light of Christ that lives in each one of us be our guiding source of strength and joy this, Easter.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions you have regarding our school and French Immersion program.

Yours in Partnership,

David Malleau
Principal

Frequently Asked Questions regarding the Transition to St. Leo Catholic School
The following frequently asked questions will help provide more information regarding the move to St. Leo Catholic School for French Immersion. Additional questions can be emailed to david.malleau@dcdsb.ca.

Q: Is there a survey for parent to complete to indicate their wish to transfer?

St. John Paul II CS students currently in Senior Kindergarten who have enrolled in Grade 1 French Immersion, and students currently in Grades 1 to 5 will automatically transfer to St. Leo Catholic School for French Immersion in September 2021.

St. John Paul II CS families with students currently in Grades 6 and 7 French Immersion were asked to complete an expression of interest survey to indicate their preference to remain at St. John Paul II CS for Grade 7 and 8 for French Immersion. Grandfathering students is being taken into consideration based on sufficient interest and viable class sizes.

Q: Do I need to register at St. Leo CS if I am transferring for French Immersion.

No. Your child will automatically be transferred to St. Leo CS for French Immersion in September 2021.

Child Care Programs
YMCA logo

We are fortunate to have a YMCA Child Care Centre and a Before and After School Program at St. Leo Catholic School. These two services provide daycare for infants to children 12 years of age. If you are interested in this program, please contact the YMCA Child Care Centre at your convenience.

There is a designated wing of the school devoted to the YMCA which includes their own fenced yard areas. School-aged children in their program make use of designated areas within the regular school. To enrol in the YMCA, contact their supervisor, Tiffany Hickey at 905-655-4342.
Safety at St. Leo Catholic School

Supervision begins at 7:50 a.m. with three staff members on duty in the back and one out front, along with our principal who can be found at the front of the school most days. Kindergarten students have their own fenced area of the yard.

Students arriving to school enter through the front entrance. Our close relationship with the parish church means parents and guardians can safely drop off students in their back parking lot. The drop off zone is identified by yellow cones in the church parking lot.

The morning bell rings at 8:05 a.m., followed by announcements at 8:10 a.m. We are currently holding school wide announcements via Zoom, so our student readers have an audience while offering us an opportunity to gather as a school community.

Dismissal is at 2:35 p.m. Our classes exit via a designated door for students who walk or get picked up by parents. There is a parent waiting area by our primary classrooms exit door. All bus students exit via the front door.
