Pathway Presentation at Kaitaia Abundant Life School
On Wednesday 4 November, the EEB team travelled to Kaitaia Abundant Life School. We visited the Year 9 & 10 ākonga and ran a Career Pathway presentation to assist them with their subject selection evening, which was later that day.
Over 20 ākonga engaged in a presentation about the importance of subject selection for career pathways. Ākonga
were able to identify their key skills and interests, then match this with their desired career pathway. They then learned how to explore this further over their senior years.

We look forward to supporting the Kaitaia Abundant Life School ākonga throughout their education to employment journey over the coming years.
Secondary School Supporter Evening Celebrations
During November, our team attended 'Supporter Evening' events to celebrate the collaborative relationship between secondary schools and local industries.

It was a great way to celebrate the success of a busy yet challenging year with each school, along with the various industries supporting young people in the community.

It's been amazing working alongside these secondary schools across Te Tai Tokerau in 2020. We look forward to developing greater industry opportunities with your schools, whānau and community in 2021.
On Tuesday 24 November, Pompallier Catholic College hosted the Year 10 Careers Day to prepare their ākonga for career exploration during their senior years.
Over 80 Year 10 ākonga interacted in activities and presentations from a range of industry and education representatives. Ākonga gained an insight to various career pathways by gaining first- hand knowledge directly from local specialists.
A special thanks to all providers and industry representatives for supporting the Pompallier Catholic College Year 10 Careers Day event. We appreciate your time and contribution in influencing future career pathways for young people in your community.

Careers Events 2021
Join us and explore careers in health and wellbeing!

Careerforce, the Industry Training Organisation for the health and wellbeing sectors, are running career exploration events for high school students with support from the Ministry of Education.

The health and wellbeing sector needs more young people in the workforce to combat the existing workforce shortages.

The health and wellbeing sectors offer many exciting and rewarding career opportunities for young people who want both a career and to make a difference.
These sectors cover the likes of healthcare, social and community services, mental health, disability support, aged care, and youth work. Common across all the sectors is the increasingly challenging workforce shortages, and the need to attract younger people into their workforces.

We welcome high school students interested in:
  • Pursuing a career within health and wellbeing, and earning as they’re learning.
  • Helping people recover from illness or injury to live independent lives.
  • Caring for the aged and vulnerable in the community.
  • Providing quality service and patient care.
  • Working with other young people to reach their full potential.

Teachers Only Day | Friday 4 June 2021
In 2019 Tai Tokerau Education to Employment (e2e) ran a Teachers Only Day at Whangarei Boys High School, which over 250 teachers from across the rohe attended.

This event enabled teachers to meet various local employers from across the employment spectrum to understand and raise awareness of opportunities for our tai tamariki. The event increased their ability to have conversations with their ākonga about a broader range of potential pathways and also enhanced their ability to contextualize their teaching into the most up to date scenarios.

The e2e group will be rerunning this event on Friday 4th June 2021, 9.30am – 2.00pm, at Okaihau College.

This event is not just for Careers Advisors or Gateway Coordinators - it is for ALL teachers. The more teachers who attend the greater the outcomes for our ākonga, with increased awareness and understanding of careers. It is our hope that you will create a teacher only day for your school and that your whole staff team will be able to attend. We have some funds available to assist with travel if required.

Please indicate potential staff number attendance to [email protected] by Monday 30 November, and e2e will confirm numbers closer to the time in 2021.

If you have any questions or queries, or requests on specific industries you would like to see there, please do not hesitate to get in contact with Jessica Kean.
