Events Update

Ngā Ara Taiao, an industry exposure event for Northland College ākonga, offered an immersive experience across various industry worksites encompassing land, sea, and air!

Our journey commenced at Merlin Labs in Kerikeri, where the ākonga started the day with a presentation unveiling the pioneering work behind the world’s first autonomous plane. Engaging discussions with industry professionals highlighted diverse career pathways within aviation, inspiring our students with personal anecdotes and insights. Following this, ākonga embarked on a guided tour of the facility, even having the privilege to sit inside the aircraft while pilots and engineers elaborated on its intricate aspects and the diverse roles within aviation.

Continuing our exploration, we ventured to Kaikohe Berries, where ākonga were treated to a tour of the orchard. They were captivated by explanations of premium strawberry cultivation and the cutting-edge facilities. The discussion also highlighted the multitude of pathways available in the horticulture industry.

The primary objective of this event is to broaden the horizons of our ākonga, exposing them to diverse vocational opportunities they might not have previously considered. Additionally, it underscores the abundance of opportunities available in Northland, dispelling the notion that success is solely reserved for urban environments. Indeed, our region offers a wealth of prospects awaiting exploration.
