Looking for a future apprentice or providing work experience, look no further!
These students are amazing, have a real insight for their future industry. Tim Pratt has mentored these future tradesmen to become work ready, with a large focus on teamwork and employability skills.
The students have had experience through all aspects of timber frame construction due to their time in the Trades Academy, and are really proud of the skills they have developed.
The academy has been established for over 10 years, and recently gained a contract with Kainga Ora (formerly known as Housing New Zealand) to put their skills to use in building prefabricated, transportable homes to help address the national housing shortage. Tim admits that securing this contract was no mean feat, but the support from a sponor helped established the build of the first home, which was an advantage to securing the contract.
The academy have had great success and have sold two houses this year with intentions to build 6 more in 2021. Tim and the school would love to expand the Trades Academy by developing other trade workshops. The funds from the builds will support the development of an automotive academy in the school.
Tim has some amazing insights of the contractural processes for contract tenders. He has a wealth of knowledge in this area and is eager to share his learnings with other schools to encourage the development of Trades Academy throughout Te Tai Tokerau.
