Welcome to The 2021 August Effect
Random thoughts from your President
God Moments

We all experience moments in our lives that we recognize as being “special”. They may not mean anything to another person, but they have meaning for us. They linger with us. They touch our hearts. They have an impact that leaves an impression on us whether we experience the moment alone, through observation or shared with others who participate in the moment. Moments like these could involve people, places, things or ideas. We can’t create special moments. They just happen.

So, what about God Moments? If I ask how God has touched your life today, what would you say? Yes, there are the easy answers: another day of life, the sunrise/sunset, birds and flowers, health or some success. But what is one personal thing, one moment during the day, that you felt God with you? That was your God Moment.

Close your eyes and ears to the outside world. Open your mind and let your thoughts wander. It is amazing what comes to us in that silence. Any time we are receptive to the movements of the Spirit within us, we open ourselves to a God Moment. Look upon the face of a sleeping baby and you will feel the presence of God. These special moments happen often during the course of our normal day but may go unnoticed unless we take time to reflect on the day’s blessings. Personal God Moments happen whether we are doing dishes or reading scripture. “Let us be silent that we may hear the whisper of God.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

In the difficult times, many of us pray and actively pursue God, hoping for a God Moment, praying He will take over. We ask Him to intercede in our lives or the lives of others. When a loved one is ill or a friend is suffering, we storm the heavens praying for God to ease the suffering; heal the sick; restore peace. We pray for our country and for those who do not believe. We pray for an end to abortion and we pray that we pass the test. We pray for people we do not know and for those who are most dear to us. When our human strengths and resources are exhausted, we pray for the courage to endure what might lie ahead. “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matt 11:28

Metanoia is the result of a big God Moment. In Cursillo, I learned about Metanoia – that it is a change in our life as a result of a spiritual conversion. It may start as a moment but interaction with others causes it to expand over time through sharing and opening one’s self to the Holy Spirit. These moments are more of an encounter with God who embraces our heart and touches our soul. “I was one way - and now I am completely different - and the thing that happened in between was HIM” THE CHOSEN APP Season 1, Episode 2

Life is a God Moment. I read somewhere (I wish I could remember where) that God loved us into existence, therefore, if God forgot about us, for even a second, we would cease to exist. Every movement, every breath we take are only possible because God loves us. Take a moment to think about your God Moments and thank the One Who fills our days with His Presence……………….Kathy Rowell

Seven Sister Apostolate
Kay Wessel

I’d like to take this opportunity to share with you an Apostolate close to my heart. I would like to encourage the Parish Council of Catholic Women, in every parish, to initiate or continue the ‘Seven Sisters Apostolate’. The Apostolate is a call to strengthen the Church by ensuring that a holy hour is prayed each day of the week for the sole intention of a specific priest. A Seven Sisters group is comprised of seven women, with each selecting one day per week to pray, Monday through Sunday, preferable before the Blessed Sacrament, for one year. An active Apostolate will provide an insight into the life of a priest. Only seven women are needed for each parish priest. The prayerful hour will not only strengthen your priest but each woman offering the hour. A Seven Sisters Apostolate booklet can be down loaded at www.sevensistersapostolate.org.  A second booklet, I find helpful Praying For Our Priests was compiled by Omaha Archbishop Elden Curtiss and priests from the Archdiocese of Omaha. Copies of this booklet can be requested at www.prayingforourpriests.org. If your parish has not already initiated the Seven Sister Apostolate, please prayerfully consider starting on. God Bless You all.

Why do we have reunions?
The summer is almost over and since Covid has lessened, we are rushing to get together with friends and family. Why do we get together? We have class reunions, family reunions and long time meetings but really we just need one another.
Recently, we held a Province meeting at Blessed Sacrament in Grand Island. You might see this as one more meeting to go to, but it is more. It is a chance to get together with Catholic leaders throughout the state. Members from the Grand Island, Lincoln and Omaha diocese were in attendance. We learned about ideas from the other diocese and enjoyed each other in fellowship and prayer. This province meeting is open to EVERYONE! Come and see what the good work is going on in our state.

Spirit Catholic Radio Fall Care a Thon: Okay Ladies!
