FIRST-YEAR STUDENT HOUSING AND ROOMMATES

During your first year, you will live in one of our residential communities on the south part of campus, which we refer to as the South Forest. New students are assigned to our communities at random. As such, students are not asked or able to indicate building preferences. New students may be assigned to a single or double room based on their preferences and availability. Note that students assigned to single rooms are charged at the single rate (rate info).

Residence Life and Housing assigns first-year roommates based on the answers you provide on your housing application. This roommate pairing process reflects the University’s commitment to helping incoming students get to know individuals different from themselves. We have found that students with the same noise tolerance, sleep schedules, smoking preferences, and study habits tend to have positive experiences living together.

While no one can guarantee a “perfect roommate,” we find that pairing students based on these behaviors offers a starting point from which students can develop a rewarding roommate experience. We encourage students to fill out the Housing and Dining Application on their own. It is important that students be honest about their answers to make a roommate match as successful as possible. Your response to questions should reflect how you want to live at college, not necessarily how high school life may have required you to live.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT

Wake Forest has a six-semester residency requirement and is committed to providing eight semesters of on-campus housing for residential students in good standing. Students are expected to fulfill the residency requirement consecutively, barring time away from the University (e.g., CES, withdrawal). Students may request an exception to the residency requirement if they meet certain criteria by submitting a request in the Housing Portal.

To learn more about the residency requirement, please refer to our Guide to Community Living

HOUSING AND DINING APPLICATION

Our housing application is now available to incoming students via our Housing Portal.

  • Students can access the Housing Portal at go.wfu.edu/housingportal using their @wfu.edu credentials.
  • Incoming students must complete their housing application by Friday, June 14.
  • Please note that the date your application is completed will not impact your assigned community or room type.
  • As a part of this process, you will select your meal plan - details on meal plans can be found on the Dining website.

DISABILITY-RELATED ACCOMMODATIONS

In support of students with disabilities, Residence Life and Housing has a wide variety of housing and dining options on campus that can accommodate the vast majority of disability needs. Students who would like to request a disability-related accommodation should visit our housing and dining accommodations page. Incoming students must submit requests and supporting documentation by July 1.

Important note: If you have a disability that could impact your housing and/or dining needs, please document those through our housing and dining accommodations request and submit them by the July 1 deadline. Some students want to try college without those accommodations and later discover they wished they’d had the accommodation from the beginning. Our ability to meet a student’s needs is much more limited after housing assignments have been made, so we strongly encourage students to request accommodations by the July 1 deadline.
