Dear Tilton,

On behalf of the Tilton School Student Life Office and our community, I would like to welcome you to the Tilton School Family!

Opening of school is one of my favorite times of the year because it is the moment that we embrace “newness and unknowns” together as a community. Wonderful new relationships and connections are formed, reunions are celebrated, and the energy and excitement send us into the year with full hearts and eager minds.

As we start thinking about the Fall, I trust that a similar excitement, nervousness, and anticipation of the year ahead is building. Your student and family will be entering a year full of new relationships, experiences, and developments. We are excited to be joining you in creating opportunities for your teen and celebrating the growth ahead.

One of the ways we will help your student adjust to life here on the Hill and to make the most of your learning moments across campus is through the advisor-advisee relationship. Every day our advisors demonstrate their understanding that learning happens in all aspects of your student’s life here at Tilton and strive to promote opportunities for togetherness that maximize those opportunities. The role of the advisor is to support and monitor your student’s progress in all areas of self-discovery at Tilton and facilitate personal communication between the school and your family. It is important to us that your student has a lead advocate on campus, fully dedicated to coordinating the efforts of the teaching, coaching, and support staff connected to your child. Advisory group time helps make us an inclusive and supportive community and one-on-one time with an advisor helps support your child’s self-reflection, goal-setting, and transitions.  As we enter August, we will be pairing your family with an advisor.

In preparation for this process, I have enclosed two questionnaires. One is a Personal Needs Assessment for your student to complete and the other is a Parent Questionnaire for each parent/guardian to complete. Please share the Needs Assessment with your student to be completed by Monday, August 2nd. If you have any difficulty accessing the forms, you can contact me directly in the Student Life Office at [email protected]. The information you and your student provide will be shared with your advisor and the Student Life Office to set the stage for a collaborative relationship throughout the year.

In addition, we have begun planning for residential housing assignments and ask that your boarding or day student also complete the Housing Questionnaire below. Next week, an updated list of what to bring as well as guidance regarding Tilton School’s Dress Code will be available on our site to help guide you!

If you have additional questions about arrival and opening days, the website provides quick references and updates, but I am available to answer or direct any of your questions as well at [email protected]. Health-related questions can be answered by our nurses at [email protected].  I will be following up this letter with periodic information to the broader student body, so please ask your student to check their Tilton email regularly in the coming weeks. They should be completing their summer reading and any AP coursework as well.  We are very much looking forward to the year ahead and know you are as well!  Again, please enjoy the rest of your summer, and do not hesitate to reach out with any questions.

Forever Tilton True,

Chapel Love ’94
