About Learning Communities
Have you talked to your student about joining one of our 31 Learning Communities? In LCs, students have the opportunity to connect with a small group of other Warhawks who have a similar major, interest or identity by taking some classes together and living in the same residence hall. They also engage in out-of-class experiences like the students, left, working in a school garden as part of a LC day of service in the community. And, d ata suggests students in LCs are more likely to stay in school and graduate on time.

Here are just three of the 31 LCs UW-Whitewater offers:

  • Legal Eagles: For first-year students interested in law and criminal justice.
  • Health & Wellness: For students interested in staying active and healthy and making educated decisions about their physical and mental wellbeing.
  • Purple Pride: For new first-year students who are interested in LGBTQ+Allies matters.

Would you or your student like to learn more?
A reminder: It's time to SOAR (and more)
We know it's been a stressful spring (maybe you've just celebrated high school graduation) but it's really important your #FutureWarhawk completes the steps listed in their acceptance letter. Then they'll be able to request a residence hall, join a Learning Community and meet with an advisor to talk about fall classes.

If they haven't already done so, please help your student follow the steps below:

New to this kid-going-to-college thing?
We got you.

Jenny Rule is the UW-Whitewater First Year Experience office manager, but she's also a mom whose son, Luke, went off to college last year.

She made a 3-minute video called Advice for families of first-year students at UW-Whitewater with some sage thoughts on how to best support budding young adults as they head to college.
Important update from University Housing

Last week your student received word from University Housing that room assignments for the fall will proceed as normal — meaning they will be assigned two students per room, unless they’d already been approved for a single-room accommodation. For those looking for a little more space, lofts are a great way to go. Visit bedloft.com and order by Aug. 10 for the best pricing and for delivery by Move-In Day.

Students also received information on the increased safety measures being put in place. And this year we’ll offer an extended move-in period, from August 21 to 29. Students who move in before August 27 are expected to return home until August 30. Detailed information about our extended move-in process will be emailed to your students in late July.

For more information:
  • Ask your student to forward you the email they received
  • Go to University Housing to fill out a housing contract
  • Contact University Housing at 262-472-4255

Your fellow Warhawk family members have answers for you

Just a reminder that the Warhawk Family Connections group on Facebook is a goldmine of information.

Family members of current and former students — as well as current students and key staff members — actively respond to concerns as mundane as where to get a haircut in town to advice on whether joining a Learning Community is a good idea. To join the group, you'll just need to answer three simple questions. See you there!

Do you have more questions?

Please feel free to connect with the Admissions team to ask your questions or share your concerns at any time: uwwadmit@uww.edu or 262-472-1440. If we don't know the answer, we'll pass you on to someone who does.
