WAKE PREPARATORY ACADEMY

Welcome to the Wake Preparatory Academy family!

Over the coming weeks, we will be sharing important information with you to help you prepare for your first day with Wake Prep.

Families choose Wake Prep for many reasons, but mainly because we share their family's core values and also provide a rigorous education in a safe, structured, moral and wholesome environment, free of distraction.

As members of the Wake Prep family, we are all committed to protecting and preserving our moral and wholesome environment and The Wake Prep Way.

The Wake Prep Way may be very different from what students have experienced at their previous schools. It is important for everyone to have a clear understanding of what The Wake Prep Way involves.

RAISE VALUES

(Respect, Accountability, Integrity, Service, Excellence)

& PATRIOTISM

We live and breathe the RAISE values. The RAISE values are the foundation of our campus culture and they are integrated into everything we do. These values will never be sacrificed for the sake of personal comfort, convenience, outside pressures, or trends.

We hold a deep respect for our country and those who have served and currently serve. We honor and celebrate our military servicemen and women and first responders. We recognize their bravery and the sacrifices they have made to ensure our safety and well-being.

Every morning, students will stand together, in class, to recite the Pledge of Allegiance, the North Carolina Salute, and the Wake Prep Leadership Pledge

STUDENT BEHAVIOR

Attending Wake Prep is a privilege, and all students from Kindergarten through 12th grade are expected to abide by all Wake Prep policies and procedures.

Wake Prep students understand that, along with staff and parents, they play a significant role in protecting Wake Prep's campus culture. They are committed to demonstrating the RAISE values in all they do.

Students are expected to be self-governed and to respect the rights and property of others. They will conduct themselves with courtesy, refinement, and professionalism throughout the school day and beyond. They will hold themselves accountable for their choices and their behavior, and they understand that they have a personal responsibility to behave in a manner that is respectful, professional, and non-disruptive to their peers and the learning environment.

Please be sure to review the Conduct & Consequences Matrix.

ACADEMICS

Students are attending Wake Prep for the opportunity to partake in a rigorous education and to be held to a higher academic standard. Wake Prep students are organized, studious, and make academic success a top priority. They have a growth mindset and are eager to take on new challenges. They embrace the process of productive struggle in their learning. They understand that not everything will be easy, but they remain committed to working hard, putting forth their best effort, and never making excuses.

Homework will be assigned Monday-Thursday and is typically due the following day. Junior High and High School students may occasionally have homework assigned on Fridays.

A daily planner (provided by WPA) will be used by students in all grade levels to track assignments and due dates. In Kindergarten-6th grade, parents are expected to sign the daily planner each night to confirm that all homework assignments have been completed.

CELL PHONES, SMART WATCHES, TECH ACCESSORIES

Use of cell phones and smart watches is strictly prohibited. Cell phones and smart watches must be turned off and out of sight, in students' backpacks, for the duration of their time on campus, including during lunch and recess. We encourage students to connect with their peers face-to-face and work towards building lasting and meaningful friendships.

Earbuds/headphones are not allowed to be used unless pre-approved for educational purposes during class. Teachers will communicate with students as to when earbuds/headphones may be used in conjunction with specific assessments that require the use of a school Chromebook.

Students will not need cell phones during the school day to access school materials, nor will cell phones be used as calculators.

Violation of this policy will result in these items being held at the front office until a parent/guardian can pick them up.

DRESS CODE

Wake Prep students take pride in their school and dress for success. The school dress code supports a unified, disciplined, and distraction-free environment. All aspects of the dress code will be enforced. Students will not be permitted in class if they are out of dress code.

Please review the dress code guidelines outlined in the Parent & Student Handbook.
