Professional Development for Humanities Students
Did you know that HAS provides pre-career and internship support to Humanities students? We are happy to help you in a variety of ways.
Resume development: we can help you learn how to translate the skills you gain in Humanities courses to your resume. Check out our Humanities Resume Guide as a wonderful starting point.
Networking opportunities: we can direct you to events that focus on networking, as well as giving you tips on how to develop relationships with faculty members.
Letters of recommendation: we can both write these for students and share recommendations on when/how to approach faculty for letters of recommendation.
Referrals: we can direct you to other campus units that can also support your needs and interests, as well as campus leadership experiences that will develop career skills.
Pre-career/internship Advising Appointments: we are always happy to help talk through the specifics of your career and internship goals during a 1:1 appointment.
The Summer Institute in the Arts and Humanities (SIAH) is a great opportunity for students in the Humanities to engage with scholarly research with accomplished scholars and peers while earning full-time academic credit. This experience occurs in the context of seminars and tutorial-style lessons with faculty who offer their expertise in a space that encourages mutual learning with peers as well as independent thought. Attend the info session to learn more and apply by March 3, 2025.
Join us for a virtual panel discussion with professors sharing insights on preparing for graduate school. Learn what steps to take while at UW, such as the timeline for asking for a reference, hear about their experiences in graduate schools, and get your questions answered. This session is a great opportunity to learn about more about graduate school if you are considering it. Register here.
The UW's Undergraduate Research Symposium is celebrating its 30th year in 2025! It showcases student achievements across 100-plus disciplines. We encourage all humanities students interested in research to apply by Feb. 16, 2024. Students from all UW campuses participate in various presentation formats, gaining valuable experience and engaging in scholarly discussions. Learn more about the symposium here.
