I hope you are enjoying a wonderful start to summer and finding opportunities to spend time with family, friends, and in our amazing community.
One of the highlights has been the incredible energy surrounding FIFA World Cup. As a Host City, San José has come alive with soccer fans from around the world, and the atmosphere has been truly remarkable. If you haven't had a chance to attend one of the community watch parties, I encourage you to do so. With Team USA advancing to the Round of 32 and heading to Levi's Stadium, we have a unique opportunity to be part of a historic moment right here in our backyard.
The D6 team and I watched the Mexico vs. Korea match at San Pedro Square, and it was absolutely rocking. Approximately 30,000 fans showed up downtown, creating an atmosphere unlike anything I've seen on the streets of San José. The energy was contagious, with supporters packed into every available space—even climbing trees for a better view—cheering, chanting, and celebrating together. Big shout out to our city team, along with the San Jose Earthquakes and San Jose Sports Authority, who have done a fabulous job adjusting as we go to improve safety and security for the throngs of fans. One of my favorite stories from the night was hearing that fans watching from the Market St. parking structure actually DoorDashed a television. That’s a perfect example of the creativity, excitement, and uniquely San José ingenuity that has made this World Cup experience so special for our city.

While City Council is on its July recess, my team and I will continue serving District 6 throughout the summer. City departments and services will also remain fully operational during the recess. Please note that some staff members will be taking well-deserved vacations during this time, so responses may be a little slower than usual. We appreciate your patience and remain staffed to assist with any questions, concerns, or neighborhood issues.
Finally, as we head into the holiday weekend, I want to wish you and your loved ones a happy and safe Fourth of July. This year marks the beginning of our nation's 250th anniversary celebration, giving us an opportunity to reflect on our shared history and the values that unite us. Here in San José, we have a milestone of our own approaching, as our city will celebrate its 250th anniversary throughout 2027. As we celebrate these milestones—and I think of my own family’s journey from Italy to San José in January 1900—I'm reminded how fortunate we are to live in a community that continues to innovate, grow, and come together in moments both big and small.

The robots are among us! In May 2026, delivery robots started roaming San José sidewalks, delivering food to residents and workers. Now, some companies are considering deploying larger, faster delivery robots in our bike lanes. These proposals raise questions about the future of mobility and delivery services in San José: Will the robots make life easier? Will they bring new safety concerns to our streets? Can I ride one? (No, you cannot ride one.)
Join staff from the City of San José Department of Transportation and representatives from the delivery robot industry to learn about and share your input on draft city rules to regulate the devices. Ask questions and share your thoughts about sharing the street and sidewalk with the devices.

| | What 450,000 Views Revealed About the Guadalupe River | | |
More than 450,000 people have now viewed a recent video of residents kayaking on the Guadalupe River near Confluence Point at W. Santa Clara Street.
The reactions ranged from concern and skepticism to curiosity and awe. More than anything, the video's popularity revealed how strongly San José residents associate the Guadalupe River with the challenges it has faced over the years, including trash, encampments, and pollution. Seeing people paddle through downtown San José prompted an important question: Has the river changed that much?
The answer is yes—meaningful progress has been made and the video. The video—which, despite some comments, was not AI—captured a beautiful stretch of the Guadalupe River between W. San Carlos Street and Sharks Way.

If you've been reading this newsletter for a while, you know that restoring and revitalizing our waterways has been one of our top priorities. Through encampment abatements along the river corridor and the dedicated work of organizations such as the South Bay Clean Creeks Coalition and the San José Conservation Corps, thousands of tons of trash have been removed from San José’s creeks and rivers. Yes, there is still more work ahead, but the improvements are increasingly visible.
Former District 3 Councilmember Carl Salas has seen that progress firsthand. One of the river's biggest champions, Carl frequently explores the Guadalupe by kayak and often shares stories of the wildlife he encounters along the way—from beavers and hawks to ducks and fish. His enthusiasm for the river is contagious. Many members of our team have followed his lead, getting out on the water to experience the river and rethink what this community asset can become.

The video was filmed during a ‘free kayaking’ event where Carl brought out his kayaks and paddles, giving passers by the chance to experience the Guadalupe firsthand and see downtown San José from a whole new perspective. The South Bay Clean Creeks Coalition even brought out their canoes.

New Nonstop Service Between San José and Austin
Delta Air Lines will launch daily nonstop service between San José Mineta International Airport (SJC) and Austin, Texas, beginning October 6, 2026. Austin has long been one of the most requested destinations from SJC passengers, and the new route will strengthen connections between two leading centers of innovation, technology and entrepreneurship while providing travelers with greater convenience and choice.
SJC is in District 6, and we are working hard with our fabulous Director of Aviation, Mookie Patel, and his team to bring more service and direct flights to SJC. How can you help? SJC Partners with Silicon Valley Office of Protocol
San José Mineta International Airport (SJC) and the Silicon Valley Office of Protocol have entered into a new partnership to strengthen coordination for international visitors, diplomatic delegations, and distinguished guests traveling to our region. The agreement formalizes collaboration on arrivals, departures, cultural protocol, and international engagement, helping ensure Silicon Valley continues to provide a welcoming and professional experience for visitors from around the world.
New Sensory-Friendly Room to Support Neurodivergent Travelers
San José Mineta International Airport (SJC), in partnership with Nutanix and Children’s Discovery Museum of San Jose, is creating The Nest by Nutanix, a new sensory-friendly space designed to support travelers with autism and other sensory sensitivities. The 800-square-foot room will offer a calming environment with interactive features to help children prepare for air travel. Construction is underway, and The Nest is expected to open in Winter 2026 between Terminals A and B, across from Gate 17.

Soils Testing at Diridon Parking Lot
VTA’s BART Silicon Valley Phase II Extension (Phase II Project) is a six-mile, four-station extension of BART from Berryessa / North San José Station (opened 2020) through downtown San José to the City of Santa Clara. The Phase II Project is planned to include an approximately five-mile subway, three stations with underground platforms (28th Street/Little Portugal, Downtown San José, and Diridon), one ground-level station (Santa Clara), and additional support facilities.
Beginning July 20-October 18, the parking lot south of Santa Clara St. between Barack Obama Blvd. and S Montgomery St. will be temporarily closed for soils testing and trenching activity. Field equipment will include a sawcut machine, excavator/backhoe, and a geotechnical coring machine. Minor dust, noise, and vibration may occur during the working hours of 7am-7pm.

Guadalupe River Park Conservancy
On June 2, Interim Executive Director Ash Namdar, Horticulturist Jay, and Volunteer Coordinator Hilliary from the Guadalupe River Park Conservancy joined the City Council to showcase the Conservancy’s stewardship of the Heritage Rose Garden. Through a live rose dead-heading demonstration, they highlighted the ongoing care, beautification, and community activation efforts that help keep this beloved public space thriving.

Leslie Osborne, Bay FC
Leslie Osborne, co-founder of Bay FC and a legend of the U.S. Women's National Team, sharing her journey to the Bay Area, how she fell in love with the region, and how that passion ultimately led her to help launch Bay FC in 2023 alongside co-founders and San José natives Brandi Chastain, Danielle Slaton, and Aly Wagner.

A lifelong San José resident and co-owner of Bertucelli’s La Villa Delicatessen, Chris was a beloved member of the Willow Glen community whose generosity, warmth, and community spirit touched countless lives. He was a dedicated supporter of local youth sports, schools, and charitable causes, and was known for making everyone who walked through La Villa’s doors feel like family. Tamien Caltrain Station Closure
To support the Guadalupe Bridge Replacement Project, Caltrain will suspend weekend service to Tamien Station for 5 weekends in July, August and September. Closure of the station is required as crews need to perform critical bridge work located between Tamien and San Jose Diridon stations. We had a similar closure of the station last year, although this closure will be limited to the weekends below:
- July 11-12 and 25-26,
- Aug 8-9 and 22-23,
- Sept 19-20
Given the low weekend ridership on the bus bridge last year, Caltrain will not have a bus bridge between Tamien and San Jose Diridon for these weekend closures. VTA does have rail and bus service between the two stations as an alternative. Service north of Diridon Station will remain unaffected.

FREE Delivery of FREE Recycling Tote bags for Multifamily Dwelling Residents and Property Managers
To make it easier for multifamily tenants to recycle, the City of San José has delivered 85,000+ tote bags to more than 1,100 San José apartment and condo complexes in the last year. Community Cycles Requesting Bicycle Donations
Do you have a bike collecting dust in your garage? Donate it to Community Cycles of California and turn it into opportunity.
At Community Cycles of California, we believe bikes change lives. Every
donated bike goes through a comprehensive 60-point refurbishment and
safety inspection by our trained staff and workforce development
participants. From there, your bike takes one of two impactful paths:
- It may go directly into our Earn-A-Bike program supporting unhoused and low-income neighbors in gaining reliable transportation. Participants complete six hours of community service and earn a free, refurbished bike of their own.
- Or it may be sold through our nonprofit social enterprise, with 100% of proceeds reinvested into our free bike programs, workforce training, and community repair clinics.
Your unused bike can become reliable transportation, a pathway to
employment, or a source of independence for someone in our community.
We accept:
- Quality bikes of all types and sizes
- Bikes with flat tires or few broken/missing parts
- Gently used parts and accessories
Ready to donate? Come by 35 Wilson Ave Tuesday - Saturday from 10AM - 5PM. All donations are tax deductible.

District 6 CERT is a volunteer group of CERT members meet monthly to prepare for emergencies and be a resource in our neighborhoods. Meetings are generally held on the LAST Thursday of each month (except November - December). D6 CERT appreciates and welcomes your participation.

To report an issue, we encourage you to download the 311 app or report online. The 311 App is available at the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
