This is how we answer our missionary call. This is how we build a culture of life, a culture that joyfully proclaims the truth of God's love, purpose, and plan for each person. Changing the culture is a process of conversion that begins in our own hearts and includes a willingness to be instructed and a desire to be close to Jesus-the source of joy and love.

"Dear brothers and sisters, Christ is risen! And we have the possibility of opening our hearts and receiving his gift of hope. Let us open our hearts to hope and go forth. May the memory of his works and his words be the bright star which directs our steps in the ways of faith towards that Easter that will have no end." -Pope Francis
"Queridos hermanos y hermanas, ¡Cristo ha resucitado! Y nosotros tenemos la posibilidad de abrirnos y de recibir su don de esperanza. Abrámonos a la esperanza y pongámonos en camino; que el recuerdo de sus obras y de sus palabras sea la luz resplandeciente que oriente nuestros pasos confiadamente hacia esa Pascua que no conocerá ocaso." -Papa Francisco

The Resurrection of the Lord
April 1, 2018
When the sabbath was over,
Mary Magdalene, Mary, the mother of James, and Salome
bought spices so that they might go and
anoint him.
Very early when the sun had risen,
on the first day of the week, they came to the tomb.
They were saying to one another,
"Who will roll back the stone for us
from the entrance to the tomb?"
When they looked up,
they saw that the stone had been rolled back;
it was very large.
On entering the tomb they saw a young man
sitting on the right side, clothed in a white robe,
and they were utterly amazed.
He said to them, "Do not be amazed!
You seek Jesus of Nazareth, the crucified.
He has been raised; he is not here.
Behold the place where they laid him.
But go and tell his disciples and Peter,
'He is going before you to Galilee;
there you will see him, as he told you.'"

Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord
April 9, 2018
The angel Gabriel was sent from God
to a town of Galilee called Nazareth,
to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David,
and the virgin's name was Mary.
And coming to her, he said,
"Hail, full of grace! The Lord is with you."
But she was greatly troubled at what was said and pondered what sort of greeting this might be. Then the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father, and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever, and of his Kingdom there will be no end." But Mary said to the angel, "How can this be, since I have no relations with a man?"
|
And the angel said to her in reply, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God. And behold, Elizabeth, your relative, has also conceived a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month for her who was called barren; for nothing will be impossible for God." Mary said, "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word." Then the angel departed from her.

Celebrating Mercy During Easter
Mary McClusky
MARCH 23, 2018
|
|
Easter is a time of great joy, hope, and celebration, so why does the Churchemphasize our sinfulness and great need for mercy on the Second Sunday of Easter, "Divine Mercy Sunday"? The Gospel reading on that day and Jesus's words to St. Faustina Kowalska make it clear that the connection is quite fitting and always appropriate: Jesus suffered and died for our sins so that we might receive His mercy and the joy of eternal life.
The destruction of life through abortion, assisted suicide, and euthanasia are among the gravest of sins. Yet Jesus says that even those who have committed great sins can not only be forgiven, but have priority. St. Faustina, a Polish nun canonized by St. John Paul II in 2000, recorded the words of Jesus in her journal: "Let the greatest sinners place their trust in my mercy. They have the right before others to trust in the abyss of My mercy... I cannot punish even the greatest sinner if he makes an appeal to my compassion, but on the contrary, I justify him in my unfathomable and inscrutable mercy" (Diary of St. Faustina, Divine Mercy in My Soul, 1146).
As related in John's Gospel (Jn 20:19-31) proclaimed on the Second Sunday of Easter, the resurrected Jesus appeared to the disciples. They had been gripped by fear, but rejoiced when they saw him and received the Holy Spirit, peace, and the power to forgive sins. God invites us, like the disciples, to be moved from fear into great joy. Despite our great sinfulness, we can receive forgiveness, grace, and healing in the sacrament of reconciliation and be inspired to show mercy to others.

Update on Conscience Protection Act
Despite our efforts over many weeks, including your own significant efforts, the Conscience Protection Act (CPA) was not included in the Fiscal Year 2018 omnibus appropriations bill passed by the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate and signed into law by President Trump last week.
Ultimately, there was no direct vote by Congress on whether to include CPA in the omnibus appropriations bill. Republican and Democratic leadership in the House and Senate, along with the White House, made the final decisions about what policies were included in the bill, including the decision about the CPA.
In a statement issued Thursday, Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan, chair of the USCCB Committee on Pro-Life Activities, and Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz, chair of the USCCB's Committee for Religious Liberty, reacted with deep disappointment to the news saying:
"Those inside and outside of Congress who worked to defeat the CPA have placed themselves squarely into the category of extremists who insist that all Americans must be forced to participate in the violent act of abortion. We call on Congress not to give up until this critical legislation is enacted."

We urge you to send a similar message to your lawmakers

Oppose Abortion Expansion in State Budget
Last Updated: 03/1/2018
In his recent Executive Budget proposal, Governor Andrew Cuomo included a radical bill that would expand late-term abortions in New York State. The language of this proposal is similar to past attempts, but goes even further by legalizing infanticide when a baby is born alive during an attempted abortion.

Maintain the Ban on Surrogacy
Last Updated: 2/1/2018
Legislation which would undo New York's longstanding ban on surrogate motherhood for profit just got a boost with a new government report recommending the practice. This would enable the buying and selling of children, exploit women and undermine their dignity, intentionally divide families by separating children from at least one of their biological parents, and lead to an increased reliance on IVF (in vitro fertilization) and the destruction of more human embryos. Please let your elected officials know that you oppose this bill because it would do much more harm than good.

TAKE ACTION: Tell Congress to reinstate DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals)
Last Updated: 1/24/2018
Since the announcement that the Trump Administration is rescinding the Obama-era Executive Order known as DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals), the issue has become a political football, with the future of nearly 800,000 beneficiaries of the program (including an estimated 42,000 of our fellow New Yorkers) hanging in the balance. While the federal government has the right and duty to protect and secure our borders, the individuals who benefitted from DACA have done nothing wrong. The Dreamers were brought to this country as children by their parents; for many, they have known no other home. Take Action Today!

Last Updated: 10/04/2017
Cardinal Dolan, Chairman of the USCCB Committee on Pro-Life Activities and Bishop Dewane, Chairman of the USCCB Committee on Domestic Justice and Human Development have expressed their strong support for H. Con. Res. 80, a resolution expressing the sense of Congress that assisted suicide is a "deadly, discriminatory and non-compassionate practice."

50 YEARS AGO Blessed Paul VI prophesied to the
world that marriages and the society would suffer
if the use
of contraception became widespread.
He said that
infidelity, moral decline, loss of
respect for women and
abuse of power by
governments would increase
exponentially. This conference will highlight the fulfillment of these
prophecies in the world today and offer a reflection as to
how selflessness, love, self- mastery and moral responsibility
can reverse this trend.
