Issue 89 | August 2018
This is how we answer our missionary call. This is how we build a culture of life, a culture that joyfully proclaims the truth of God's love, purpose, and plan for each person. Changing the culture is a process of conversion that begins in our own hearts and includes a willingness to be instructed and a desire to be close to Jesus-the source of joy and love.
May we all continue to build   culture of life !

My dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:

On October 14, 2018, Pope Francis will canonize his predecessor, Pope Blessed Paul VI. I write you this pastoral letter on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Encyclical Letter Humanae Vitae, “On Human Life” – authored by this soon-tobe-canonized saint. But this teaching of the late Holy Father is in many ways more important today than at any time before. It reveals how a holy pope, under terrible pressure to change the long-standing moral teaching of the Church, had the courage, strength and love to teach the truth that his sons and daughters around the world desperately needed to hear. Bishop Henning ordained ‘to follow in footsteps of apostles’
Though the day held all the heat and humidity that late July brings to the northeast, St. Agnes Cathedral was full of joy as more than two dozen bishops, over 100 priests, and hundreds of the faithful gathered to witness the ordination and appointment of Bishop Richard Garth Henning as Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Rockville Centre.
Bishop Barres lays his hands upon the head of Bishop-elect Henning, conferring the power of the Holy Spirit.

When a Friend Is Considering Abortion
If someone shared with you that she was pregnant and hadn't ruled out having an abortion, would you know how to respond? Although the first instinct may be to convince her that abortion ends a baby's life, hearing facts is not the first thing she needs. Research shows that many women in a pregnancy crisis think, "This is the end of my life as I know it." To face the challenges before her, your friend needs to know you care about her for her own sake and she is not alone. Read more

Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord
Monday, August 6, 2018
Jesus took Peter, James, and his brother John, and led them up a high mountain apart by themselves. And he was transfigured before them,
and his clothes became dazzling white, such as no fuller on earth could bleach them. Then Elijah appeared to them along with Moses,
and they were conversing with Jesus. Then Peter said to Jesus in reply, "Rabbi, it is good that we are here!

Solemnity of the Assumption of the
Blessed Virgin Mary
Wednesday, August 15, 2018
"My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my Savior for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant. From this day all generations will call me blessed: the Almighty has done great things for me and holy is his Name. He has mercy on those who fear him in every generation. He has shown the strength of his arm, and has scattered the proud in their conceit. He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,
and has lifted up the lowly. He has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty.
He has come to the help of his servant Israel for he has remembered his promise of mercy, the promise he made to our fathers, to Abraham and his children forever."

Bishops Call for a Novena for the Legal Protection of Human Life

by: Tom Grenchik
July 27, 2018
The U.S. bishops urge our participation in a nationwide Novena for the Legal Protection of Human Life, each Friday from August 3 through September 28.

Cardinal Timothy Michael Dolan, Archbishop of New York and Chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) Committee on Pro-Life Activities, invited all people of good will to join in this campaign of prayer that the change in the U.S. Supreme Court will move our nation closer to the day when every human being is protected in law and welcomed in life.

As part of the USCCB Call to Prayer, participants will receive weekly prayer reminders by text message or email. In addition to the current invitation to fast on Fridays, participants will be encouraged to pray one Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be for this intention and will receive important facts about how Roe is not health care, is bad law, and fails women. Things have a price and can be for sale, but people have a dignity that is priceless and worth far more than things. ” Pope Francis

Transitioning from high school to college can be exciting and overwhelming. No two students have the same experience, but it is certainly a time of big changes. Adapting to a brand new environment can be tricky, and coursework can be extremely challenging for some students. It is important that we make ourselves aware that college students are faced with immense amounts of stress, and have been said to be in the midst of a mental health crisis. Read more
