A New Art Adventure Year

January 15, 2024

It’s a new Art Adventure year! We are 2 weeks in, and I am feeling pretty good about it. I have some plans to build two bodies of art this year (one of linoleum cuts and one of mixed media “journal pages” but on a 5x7 canvas). I am working on linoleum carving mark making to develop my skills, I purchased a professional grade carving tool and have hopes of adding 2 more by the end of the year. You know what they say…better tools yield better results. I must say, though, that I have learned a lot using Speedball linoleum cutters and I will no doubt continue to use them while I continue to hone my craft.

In the past year my sketchbook practice has grown and has also become a place where I write to myself. Here is a list that I jotted down in my sketchbook on January 1st, “more landscapes, more florals, more hopeful beauty, more gentleness, more new places, more experience”. I have gone back to this page a few times already and it feels like my compass this year, setting both direction and intention.

Other new things in 2024! I have opened a Buy me a Coffee site. This is a place where you can support my art adventure by making a small cash donation that I could literally use to head over to my favorite coffee shop and get a coffee or I can bank it to use for things like another professional grade linoleum carving tool, the sharpening kit or a 10X10 Popup Canopy for outdoor art shows. There is an option to sign up for monthly memberships too. Check it out here.

And lastly, I have added a Linktree to my Instagram page. This is a list of quick links where you can find me and my art around the internet. Go to my bio then click- linktr.ee/lmarieprintmaking.

I wish for you to be part of this art adventure conversation. Please send feedback and questions to lmarieprintmaking@gmail.com. Did you know that I have a website? Click here to visit!

Art Journal Prompt- Silence

As mentioned above one of the bodies or work that I am focusing on this year is a series of mixed media art journal pages. They are being created on a 5x7in canvas board and are not bound in a book. I got the idea after the second time I invited you all (my readers) to join me in some journal work, whether it is a written journal or an art journal. The initial prompts are "daydream” and "silence". I love the way that I discover a different story with images, text and sketches. I feel that I am developing a new voice by writing the story as a description of the piece. Writing and creating visual art have ties that I never knew. Head over to my website to read “Silence”.

How do I come up with the prompts? Well, I don’t have a list and it is a very serendipitous process. Each prompt (so far) is a word which sort of calls to me in something that I have read recently. I have a post-it note on my tea table in the art room and I jot them down and choose the one which resonates the most.

Please consider joining me in creating something from my next prompt "direction".

Color Story-One of the Oldest Pigments Still in Use

Color story is back this month with a fun fact! What color was found in prehistoric caves, then later in the 16th-17th centuries was discovered to come from a bug in Mexico? The bug which this pigment was derived from became so popular that it was the third most valuable export from the “New World” next to gold and silver and is still used today in women’s cosmetics? Get the scoop here about ochre red with the folks from Artsy.

Where's Lisa?

This just in! I will have a booth at the Fall in Love with Handmade Urban Craft Fair in downtown Oshkosh at Becket's atrium on Saturday, February 10, 2024 from 10-2. A portion of the proceeds from booth fees support the Oshkosh Area Humane Society.

And I am demonstrating some of my mixed media art techniques at the Omro Public Library on Saturday, February 17th at 10:30.

Come visit me at one of these locations!
