Welcome to June Council Connect

President's Message - Judy Weston

The Winds of the Holy Spirit

As you receive this article, we have celebrated The Solemnity of the Ascension of our Lord. Imagine for a moment what the Apostles thought as they watched Jesus ascend to his Heavenly Father. What did they do? They returned to Jerusalem and waited for the Holy Spirit to come upon them. They knew they were Chosen to Bear Fruit (Jn 15:16) It began thousands of miles away from us, but continues today. As members, God is asking us to shape the world.

What a year 2025 has been already. A Jubilee year, the death of a Pope a day after he blessed the world with his” urbi et orbi” on Easter Sunday, and now the election of an American born Pope, something that was thought to be improbable. Early background on Pope Leo XIV included interviews with his brothers and classmates, pictures of him at the World Series game, and stories of his service as a missionary in Peru. But what struck me most was an anecdote written about his mom.

Spring has arrived and with it a new Pope. Even though there is sadness at the passing of Pope Francis, new beginnings are always a time of freshness and renewed hope. May Pope Leo XIV continue to serve the Church with his humility and love of the Lord.

Spring also brings ample opportunities to do Corporal Works of Mercy. Cleaning up yards and gardens comes to mind, either at your church or for a neighbor who may be unable to do the necessary work. New priest assignments are effective in June. Welcome your new priest with "We're glad you are here" recognition celebration in some way. And recognize in some way your outgoing priest in appreciation of their service to your church and his vocation.

  • Please remember to collect used eye glasses and to support the pregnancy centers in whatever way your Parish Council of Catholic Women has decided to provide support.

Know that all the things you are doing in your parish and your community are more valuable and appreciated than you can image. Keep doing all the wonderful things that you do!

We know too well that what we are doing is nothing more than a drop in the ocean. But if the drop were not there, the ocean would be missing something.

- St Mother Teresa

And I might add, without drops, there would be no ocean!

May God continue to bless you in the work that you do!

It’s summertime and most of our organizations take the summer off. Taking the summer off could

be used as a way to encourage spiritual renewal, foster deeper community connections or even

provide space for rest and reflection. It might also open doors for special summer gatherings –

pilgrimages, camps or even other worship experiences. It could also be embraced as a sacred

time rather than an absence. Enjoy your summer and continue to grow in your prayer life and

faith life. Become aware of God’s presence!

Leadership Training in Geneva

We are continuing this summer with training for the women of the LDCCW.

This summer's training will be at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Geneva NE.

We are encouraging you to attend in person as much of the information can change.

There is a video of the David City Training if you would like the link please email ldccwpresident@gmail.com.

President's Project:

Adopt a Pregnancy Center

Please choose a Pregnancy Center you would like to support. Many of those who volunteer would enjoy the personal connection from their local Parish Council of Catholic Women (PCCW). We currently have lists from pregnancy centers and one from St. Gianna for their apartment needs. Please use the list as a reference of what to purchase. If you wish to send money to the Pregnancy Center please send the money  directly to Pregnancy Center

The spiritual needs of the centers are important as well. Use the Spiritual Bouquet cards and send them to your local pregnancy center and let them know they are receiving  spiritual cover to do their work.

The Immaculate Heart of Mary

Why do we honor Mary’s Immaculate Heart?

St. John Paul II said, “From Mary, we learn to love Christ, her Son and the Son of God…. Learn from her to be always faithful, to trust that God’s Word to you will be fulfilled and that nothing is impossible with God.”

When we honor the Immaculate Heart, we give ultimate honor to Jesus. As we honor the Mother, we honor the Son. In addition, the Blessed Virgin is our mother as well (see Revelation 12:17), and her mother’s heart is incomparable. St. Louis de Montfort said, “If you put all the love of all the mothers into one heart, it still would not equal the love of the heart of Mary for her children.”
