Our first virtual performance!
Yes, we're singing!
The Huntsville Master Chorale is thrilled to present our first virtual choir performance with the premiere of We Fulfill His Prayer, composed by HMC member Dennis Clements and co-written with Toya Poplar.

While Covid-19 prevents us from performing in person, virtual rehearsals and performances provide opportunities to continue our mission of fostering creativity by keeping excellent choral singing alive while nurturing composers and performing new works.

We love this composition and hope you will enjoy our first virtual performance!
"I wanted this piece to be a plaintive call to actively oppose the status quo of race relations
in our country."
-- Dennis Clements, Composer
Dr. Dirk Garner Visits The Chorale

On Aug. 25, the Huntsville Master Chorale invited Dr. Dirk Garner, Director of Choral Activities at Baldwin Wallace Conservatory, to speak about singing with a community choir during the pandemic.

He shared tips for directors and singers who are navigating this virtual landscape. He went on to speak passionately about his analysis of the Golden Mean in J.S. Bach Cantatas. (Who knew Bach was also a mathematician?) Garner shared thoughts on Bach's writing style, and how he felt about the choirs and instrumentalists of his day.

Dr. Garner's energy and enthusiasm are infectious - you'll want to hear the entire conversation!
We want to know what you're thinking!
What's your favorite musical genre?
Composers Wanted!

Our composition contest is moving forward as planned, and it couldn’t come at a better time. Many musicians are unable to perform in their usual venues, but this gives more time than ever to compose! We plan to expand the competition nationwide to give musicians everywhere the opportunity to compete for the $1,000 prize.

A Note from the President

Greetings!

I am so glad you have decided to be a part of the Huntsville Master Chorale! Whether as a singing member, volunteer, audience member, or patron, you have chosen an organization that is well worth your time. The arts enhance our society and “sooth the savage beast” within us. Many times, when financial crises occur, the arts are the first to be cut. Today we are not only fighting financial challenges, but also a pandemic that restricts the ability for musicians to share music in the usual ways.

The Chorale will continue to share music through this monthly newsletter, through social media, and on our website until we are able to perform in person again. That day will most assuredly come, but until then, we need your help to continue to make music. I hope you will select at least one of the following ways to support the Huntsville Master Chorale. We look forward to the day when we can once again sing together!

Ways to Help:
  • Audition for HMC and participate in a weekly virtual rehearsal and voice recording to be added to a choral virtual performance. Your membership dues help with the costs of music and recording to provide those virtual performances.
  • Become an HMC Patron to help with organizational expenses and provide scholarships so that cost is never a barrier to participating in quality music experiences.
  • Join HMC as a volunteer to assist the organization with in-kind services such as recording/editing; program, poster, and website design/printing; and (once concerts resume) assisting with ushering, set-up, sound, lighting, staging, etc.

Please check our website for more information about the Chorale and ways you can help. We are grateful for you, our audience, and hope you enjoy this virtual season!
