Welcome to the April Issue of HIIN The Know !
This month HIIN The Know focuses on sepsis, one of the leading causes of mortality and readmissions for hospitalized patients. HSAG HIIN hospitals have made important gains in prevention, identification, and treatment of sepsis over the past year by implementing standardized protocols, forming multidisciplinary teams, assigning dedicated sepsis coordinators, and optimizing electronic health record systems to support clinical decisions.

Sepsis is a complex disease with high risk for mortality. To combat sepsis, hospitals need to constantly focus on continuous education and improvement in partnership with patient/family leaders, clinicians, and physicians. A common saying is that sepsis improvement is a graduate-level course because success is impacted by every aspect of the hospital’s human and organizational systems.

This month, HSAG HIIN is launching a Safety Across the Board education series beginning with an in-person E vent in Pomona on April 13

As part of the HSAG HIIN, your hospital has access to no-cost sepsis resources to support your implementation plans.   Please reach out to your Clinical Improvement Advisor (CIA) to receive your personalized, no-cost assistance today.

Reminder—HIIN Comparisons Dashboard!
Don’t forget to review the HIIN Comparisons Dashboard on the HSAG HIIN Secure Data Portal. The interactive dashboard allows your hospital to select from a list of specific measures to display a comparison of your hospital’s performance and progress toward improvement goals in contrast to three peer groups: an aggregate of all the hospitals in the HSAG HIIN, a Hospital Characteristics Peer Group, and a Regional Peer Group. To access your hospital’s comparison dashboard, select the Dashboard tab on the HSAG HIIN Secure Data Portal .
