Welcome to August Council Connect

President's Message - Judy Weston

A Journey to a Holy Place

This has been a year of journeys. The Eucharistic Pilgrimage of last summer and the trip to the Holy Land are the tops in my book. I am always drawn to where Jesus traveled whether in Nebraska or overseas. The Holy Land continues to draw me back to the sights and sounds of where Jesus walked.

Yesterday, I took a client out to see the 9 Mile Bridge near Doniphan. We have been talking about history and so we took the drive and walked over the bridge and visited. I explained that last year during the Eucharistic Pilgrimage the bishops from Grand Island and Lincoln met over the Platte River. In turn, Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament returned to the Lincoln Diocese for the waiting adorers at St. Ann’s in Doniphan.

The 9 Mile Bridge is a trestle bridge, which has a series of short spans that are made of steel and connect together giving support to the bridge. The road on this bridge has seen wear and tear, but still allows one vehicle to pass. If you stop to walk the short span of the bridge, you can almost see Jesus and his apostles walking across the bridge. The river is now in its sandbar stage with beautiful wildflowers gracing the edges of the Platte. In our journey, toward a closer encounter with Jesus, we too cross over different paths.

To the Inactive Deaneries

From President Judy Weston

I shared the importance of the support beams in my monthly Council Connect article. As I stopped to walk the 9 Mile Bridge, I focused on the railroad trestle bridge nearby. The bridge will eventually collapse and fall into the river, as the beams are so dilapidated, they do not even hold the bridge. This message is for the deaneries that are struggling to obtain officers or rebuild their deanery board.

Why have a deanery board?? It isn't one more meeting to attend. It is about developing relationships with other women who believe the same faith as you do. you, through the suggested projects, further Christ's Kingdom on Earth. It is about moving toward heaven.

In the newly revised bylaws, which will be voted on, we are encouraging the board to consist of the basic needs to be successful--- a president, secretary, and treasurer. It would be wonderful to have a full slate of officers, but with the world tugging at you in every direction, we recognize a full slate of officers can be difficult to fill.

Now, if this caught your attention and you are thinking about revitalizing your board, here are a couple things you need to do. (1) Call someone on your board, either diocesan or deanery and begin a conversation. (2) Pray, pray, and pray. Jesus will tell you which direction to go.

Email me if you have questions or have ideas that have been working for you if you belong to a deanery that is meeting successfully.

Yours Sister in Christ,

President Judy Weston

It has been just one year since the Eucharistic Congress was held in Indianapolis, Indiana. If you participated in any of the pilgrimage routes leading up to the Congress, or got to actually attend the Congress, you know it was a special moment. And even if you were not able to be there, the fruits of that Eucharistic Revival are still flowing during this Year of Mission and there are still opportunities for

everyone to be a Eucharistic Missionary, inspired by this great revival. According to the Eucharistic

Congress Website, “Jesus in the Eucharist is the answer to every restless longing of the human heart. If we truly believe this, then living faith will compel us to share this joy with our brothers and sisters! That's what the third year of the Revival - the Year of Mission - is about.”

At the recent Province meeting for women from all three Nebraska Dioceses, John and

Rebessa Lillyman from Kearney, Nebraska spoke about their experiences of Eucharistic Mission.

Divine Mercy - Bonnie Damrow

The Lincoln Diocese was blessed with divine mercy yard signs this spring. All parishes in the Diocese were given the opportunity to display the Divine mercy sign. What a beautiful sight for the public to see displayed throughout the 13 deaneries, totaling 133 parishes across our Diocese.

The Service Commission of the LDCCW encourages and promotes many acts of service in our

Diocese through the LDCCW and our parishes to support the Corporal Works of Mercy. Among

them are:

Crisis Pregnancy Centers – This year the President’s Project is to support pregnancy centers across the Diocese. Each PCCW is encouraged to adopt a center and support them either spiritually, financially, materially, or by volunteering to serve their needs. In addition, the LDCCW gives a monetary donation three times a year totaling $2500.

Apostles for Life is a program also supporting the centers with a financial donation from individual members or PCCWs. $3,167.79 has been donated so far this year. It’s not too late to turn in your $12 per person donation to Teresa Koch, treasurer. Read more about our Corporal Works by clicking HERE
